Skirting two Sintra mountain ranges, the Moorish Castle dates back to the early days of the Moorish occupation of the Peninsula - the eighth century.
After many attempts, was finally taken by Dom Afonso Henriques first king of Portugal in 1147, and was built the first Christian Chapel of the city, dedicated to St. Peter of Penaferrim.
In the romantic period, in 1860, the walls were restored under the supervision of Dom Fernando II, husband of Dona Maria II, who wooded the surrounding areas, and gave a new dignity to the ancient medieval ruins. Noteworthy is the Moorish Cistern inside and the so-called Royal Tower.
Located about 3.5 km from the historic center of Sintra.

Informative Tour - Philipe gave us an informing tour. Was flexible and allowed us input to spend as much or as little time at the various stops.

The absolute best tour of the castles and coast! - Jorge was the BEST. He took us on a full-day tour from Lisboa to all the big touristy places on the coast we wanted to hit on our last day in Portugal. He gave us amazing tips at each place, helped us buy tickets for Pena Palace (we legit walked right in), knew every detail of every place. He made lunch reservations for us at a neat little restaurant in Sintra and even recommended a delicious dish. The weather was somewhat uncooperative but he was prepared with umbrellas and waited for us at the front of every site. He even was spot on with how long it would take to get through each place. We never once felt rushed. We saw every single thing we wanted to see. The car was clean and comfortable and his driving was second to none. He told us he wanted us to leave Portugal “wanting to come back again” and that’s exactly right. When we do, we will make sure to book our tours with Jorge. Absolutely do this tour!! You will NOT regret it. Thank you so much Jorge for making our trip so memorable!

Memorable Tour with Felipe - If you want 0 anxiety, comfortable, informative and pleasurable tour, then look no further. Fantastic Tour is an excellent choice. We were lucky to have Felipe (Gerald Butler look-alike) as our guide. He was attentive to our needs and made the tour hassle-free. Further, he was an amusing raconteur. Felipe, thanks from the 5 tourists from Winnipeg and Toronto, Canada.

Highly recommend - Felipe was our guide and we had a wonderful day with him. He was full of knowledge about all the sites and everything we saw during our drive as well. He is a very affable guy and it felt like we had a friend taking us around to all the sites. I very much recommend Felipe and this tour!

Best day with best guide! - My family and I had the best tour with Felipe! He picked us up on time and was incredibly warm, welcoming, and flexible throughout the whole day. He was very knowledgeable about the history and background of each place and able to answer any questions we had. A beautiful day with a great guide! We would recommend Felipe and Fantastic Tours to all our friends and family, and we would 100% return to them for our next Portugal trips.

Sintra and Portugal Coastal Highlights - This was an amazing day tour. George was an excellent driver and guide. His suggestions were great and he never made us feel rushed. We would never have thought to go to Cabo Da Roca (the western most point of Europe) had he not suggested it!

Wonderful experience! - We had the best day in Portugal going on a tour with Felipe! He gave us a lot of lots of information, history and legends that kept us thoroughly entertained. He also introduced us to a wonderful restaurant in Sintra. Would book again with Felipe in a heartbeat!!

Private tour with Philip - This was an amazing tour of Pena Castle and Quinta da Regaleira. Philip was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of history which made the tour even more interesting. We only had 1 day to see the sights, so this was a great tour to see the highlights. This was the second time my boyfriend requested Philip to be our guide... that says something!

Sintra, Capo Da Roca and... - Sintra, Capo Da Roca and Cascais are very beautiful and deserve a visit. The driver/ guide Philip was very overwhelmed with the program. He did his best to show us everything but we felt being rushed. He kept complaining about Traffic and parking etc. The van was very old and not well maintained. Overall, we enjoyed the trip but we could have enjoyed it more without hearing Philip complaining all the time.
