Highlights
  • Park and National Palace of Pena - Guided visit to the Pena Palace and grounds. The Pena Palace is one of the best representations of 19th century Romanticism in Europe. Being the second-highest point in the Serra de Sintra (over 500m above sea level), it will amaze you with its unique architecture and spectacular views. King Ferdinand II - the king-artist - fell in love with Sintra, and following the purchase of the property, decided to build a unique castle and park, with 500 plant species from all corners of the world. The palace incorporates Manueline and Moorish architectural influences, that together will give you an atmosphere of “a thousand and one nights.”. An unforgettable experience.

  • Sintra - In the center of Sintra you can either stay in the village, view the National Palace or walk to visit Regaleira (tickets not included). Also, a great option is to stay, and enjoy the wonders of this beautiful medieval little town, walking the narrow streets, feel the local atmosphere and then grab a coffee and try local pastry “Travesseiro”.

  • Quinta da Regaleira - Regaleira is a 19th century Villa, known as Palácio da Regaleira. Located in the center of Sintra, it was bought by a Portuguese businessman who was fascinated by secret orders such as Freemasonry and the Templars. Regaleira was transformed into a palace surrounded by gardens, lakes, caves and enigmatic constructions, symbolic places, typical of secret societies and rituals. A unique monument influenced by Romantic, Neo-Gothic and Manueline architecture.
When in Sintra you will choose, either explore the village or walk to see Quinta da Regaleira (self-guided, ticket not included)

  • Sintra National Palace - Sintra National Palace is one of the most important royal palaces from the 12th century, built by the moors initially, and later further developed and expanded during different monarchs’ reign. This was one of the most important political centers, during the discoveries of the 15th and 16th centuries. It has the most relevant moorish ceramic tiles collection in Portugal.

  • Cabo da Roca - We will stop at Cabo Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. After your Sintra’s visit, you will stop here to take pictures, get a bit of fresh air, and relax.

  • Centro Historico de Cascais - Cascais will amaze you, with its mix of a little fishing village, together with the sophistication of a place where kings and queens would spend part of their summer. Time to relax and have a nice meal.

  • Estoril - A quick view of Estoril, where kings were living and spies would come to meet during World War II. Fancy James Bond? You will know a bit of history also.

Amazing day! - Overall a fantastic experience, we booked onto the tour late and Rodrigo went above and beyond to get us tickets to enter the palace. Rodrigo was a fantastic guide explaining in depth every landmark. Rodrigo is very knowledgeable about the landmarks and the history of Portugal explaining what happened, when, where and who was involved. The tour was originally in Spanish but Rodrigo catered it for us by also explaining in English. We were very impressed with the versatility and interchanging of languages again and again. If you're looking for a fantastic day out filled with fun and laughter and to come away with more knowledge of the history of Portugal, don't hesistate to book onto the tour. I promise, you won't be disappointed!!

Pena Palace - a must see - Our tour guide Filipe was very attentive. The MooveAround contacted us through WhatsApp about where and when to meet. That made a great start to the tour. Pena Palace was a must-see. We originally wanted to (DIY) take the train, then bus etc to tour the town of Sintra and the Pena Palace. So happy that we decided to take a guided day tour instead. We stopped for 2 1/2 hours at the Palace due to the long line even though we got there 1/2 hour before the opening. Spent about 2 hours in the historic area of Sintra and had lunch. It was a cloudy and drizzling day in the mountain areas. However, the sky brightened when we arrived at Cascais (the beach community, a fancy one). Overall we had a great time touring the areas and learned a lot about the history of the royal families. Highly recommend this tour. Thank you, Filipe!

Fun small group activity without needing to coordinate transport yourself - Great info shared en route to Sintra, and it was helpful that our guide held 930 Pena Palace tickets for our group so we could be among the first inside. Regaleira is not actually included in the tour, you have a short window of time in Sintra after Pena Palace where you can opt to make a quick stop there, but it's definitely not enough time to fully take in the property. That was a bit of a bummer. Stopping in Roca and downtime in Cascais were also good. Our guide pointed out some good restaurants in Cascais for lunch and the one we chose was excellent. Earlier in the day we were told we'd be getting back into Lisbon around 5, but then were told to meet earlier and actually got back around 4. Wish we had the extra hour in Sintra for Regaleira or more time in Cascais. It was a long day but fun and worth it!
