Highlights
  • Besh Barmag Mountain - Besh Barmag (Azerbaijani: Besbarmaq) literally translated as Five Finger, is in Season District of Azerbaijan, not far from the Caspian Sea.

It raises to 382 m above the sea level overlooking the Baku-Guba Highway. The mountain is a solid rock and is one of the most famous mountains in the Caucasus, known for its mythical stories. It is a sacred place for regular visitation by pilgrims.

Tide marks on the mount attest to meltwater inundation from the northern glacial ice caps and date back to the end of the last ice age. The tidelines confirm the theory of a Holocene outflow of meltwater from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, rather than a direct incursion of sea water into the Black Sea as a result of global sea level rise. Estimates of the increase in Caspian Sea level height are between + 20 and 30 meters.

Visit Khinalig village. The village is located at an altitude of 2100-2200 meters above sea level. They say that this area is associated with Noah. According to legend, when Noah saw this tall and flat terrain, he dropped anchor and told everyone to leave the Ark. There are about 380 houses that are between 200-300 years old. Since the slopes here are very steep, the houses are built very close to each other. The roof of one house is the courtyard for the one located above. The locals are one of the Albanian tribes and they speak a completely original language. Khinalig village is known not only for its ancient traditions, but also for the fact that Bigfoot has been seen there.
