Prambanan Temples - Experience the stunning beauty of the Prambanan Hindu temple. Constructed in the tenth century, it stands as the largest temple complex in Indonesia dedicated to Shiva. Explore the three temples adorned with reliefs depicting the Ramayana epic, honoring the three major Hindu deities (Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma) and three temples dedicated to their animal servants. All the reliefs at Prambanan Temple narrate the Ramayana stories. The tale begins in Dandaka Forest, where Rahwana (a giant) abducts Shinta and takes her to Alengka. To rescue Shinta, Rama is aided by Hanoman and the monkey forces, who construct a bridge to the Alengka kingdom to free her. A great battle ensues between the kingdoms of Alengka and Ayodya, with the ape forces battling the giants defending Alengka in the quest to reclaim Shinta.

Sukuh Temple - Discover the fascinating and controversial temples situated on the slopes of Lawu Mountain in the Karanganyar Region, Central Java. Visit Cetho and Sukuh Temples. Depart from your accommodation in Yogyakarta and embark on a three-hour journey to Cetho and Sukuh Temples. As you pass by the slopes of Mount Lawu, enjoy the breathtaking views of the vast tea plantations and rice fields set against the backdrop of hills and towering mountains. The Sukuh temple, resembling a pyramid, does not adhere to the Hindu architecture of Wastu Vidya as it was constructed after the decline of Hinduism. One theory suggests it symbolizes a mountain.
The reliefs at Sukuh Temple depict parts of the MAHABARATA story. Other statues in Candi Sukuh include a life-sized male figure grasping his own penis and three flattened tortoise shells. In Hindu mythology, the tortoise represents the foundation or support of the world and is an avatar of Vishnu.
- Cetho Temple - Cetho is among several temples built on the northwest slopes of Mount Lawu in the fifteenth century. By this period, Javanese religion and art had diverged from the Indian influences that had significantly shaped temple styles during the 8th-10th centuries. This region was the last major area of temple construction in Java before the island’s courts converted to Islam in the 16th century. The temples’ uniqueness and the scarcity of records on Javanese ceremonies and beliefs from that era make it challenging for historians to interpret the significance of these ancient structures.
