The Slănic Mine, an ancient salt mine situated in Slănic, Prahova County, Romania, lies 100 km north of Bucharest. While it no longer serves extraction purposes, it welcomes visitors to experience its microclimate, which offers natural air-conditioning and maintains a consistent temperature and atmospheric pressure year-round. The mine consists of two levels, Unirea and Mihai. Many visitors are drawn by the reputed healing properties of the pure air. Inside, there are various recreational facilities, including playground equipment and ping-pong tables. A designated area is reserved for medical patients with lung cancer to rest. The main elevator shaft is notable for its lack of metallic parts to prevent rust. Following an elevator incident in 2014, minivans now transport visitors up and down the mine in a spiral route.
