Hoi An, initially recognized as the burgeoning harbor town for the Sa Huynh community in Vietnam, was under the rule of the Champa Kingdom from the 2nd to the 15th centuries. It eventually emerged as a bustling trade center, establishing connections with Arabia and China. History suggests that the harbor town of Lam Ap evolved into what we now know as Hoi An. The region witnessed prosperity with the prominence of Tra Kieu and My Son, sites known for their temples and towers dedicated to the Champa Kingdom. Hoi An, a significant site of Cham civilization, was recognized for its Cham port associated with maritime commerce. Favorable circumstances, including its strategic position at the convergence point of Quang Nam, spearheaded significant development in the province during the 16th to the 19th centuries.
