This is a MUST DO food tour in Sophia - This was an excellent tour. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The food tastings were delicious!

The price does not live up to our expectations - The information provided about Sofia and Bulgaria, was interesting. However this was a food tour and the selection of tasting was very basic and hardly justified the price of over 100 USD per person. First stop was a simple place where we tried about six dishes averaging 3USD per plate followed by three other stops for bites and one bar for one glass of wine. Very disappointing compared to similar tours in Budapest, Prague, Istanbul, etc. No proper restaurant stop. Also the guide asked us to change the hour and day stating that she never did evening tours although we had reserved a time slot offered by Viator. Had this tour cost around USD 30.- we would have found it acceptable. This is the first time Viator has not lived up to it’s reputation.

The tastings were a scam - The title said 10 tastings of Sofia. What we got was 1 glass of wine and 1 trip to a cafeteria (not restaurant) to have a taste of a few local dishes which were very mediocre. However the tour guide was well informed and ver nice.

Not value for money, unless you like fast food. - The tour guide Anna was exceptional, she was very knowledgeable with the information she passed on to us, which was interesting and factual. However, there was unfortunately a down side to this day out and that was with the food and venues. We first began with a shot of wine, then a pastrie from the high Street. This was later followed by a collection of different foods in a sitdown/ takeaway shop. The food was fine and everything was explained well, once this was finished we carried on walking to another place of historical importance and then very shortly after that our experience came to an end. I would just like to highlight again the tour guide was fantastic and we couldn't fault her. If we had booked her for a city walk tour the experience would have been perfect. Unfortunately, we felt the food part of the tour lacked any reel substance. It was more like a city tour with some lunch thrown in, which cost over a £100 each person. It wasn't value for money. We have been on many food tours and those tours have been about the food and the venues they come from. On those tours we visited at least 5/6 venues to try different locally sourced foods and drinks. We also felt the trip did not reflect the experience promoted on Tripadvisor. For example, it advertised 10 tasting experiences, which wasn't totally wrong. However, if you had said 8 of the foods you will try will be served at a fast food place, we would not have booked this tour, with all this, we felt the experience was not value for money and therefore would not recommend to others.
