- Panam City - Panam City: known as the lost city, is an archaeological site in Bangladesh located in Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj District. It is astonishing to learn that the structures are centuries old. This site is considered the oldest capital of Bengal and was part of the ancient silk road connecting the Bengal delta to China and Central Asia. As the capital of the fifteenth-century Bengal ruler Isa Khan, and once a significant trading and political hub, Sonargaon features architecture from the Sultanate, Mughal, and colonial periods. The historic city of Sonargaon, situated near the current capital Dhaka, includes several Mughal monuments such as the Sonakanda River Fort, the Panch Pir Mazar Shrine, and Ibrahim’s and Abdul Hamid’s Mosque. British colonial architecture preserved in Sonargaon includes the Ananda Mohan Piddar House and other street-front houses. Travelers along the 2,500-kilometer Grand Trunk Road from Peshawar in the Hindu Kush will find this site fascinating.

- Sonargaon Folk Art and Craft Museum - Folk Art & Craft Museum: Bangladesh is a land of ancient glory and rich cultural heritage. Its vast area is full of diversity. Sonargaon is a proud ancient township in the history of Bengal, serving as the capital of ancient Bengal for nearly three hundred years. During the Sultan period, Sonargaon was chosen to showcase our golden heritage. The importance of Sonargaon diminished after the capital was moved to Dhaka in 1608 during Mughal Subedar Islam Khan’s rule. Nevertheless, Sonargaon still takes us back to the golden past. The Bangladesh Folk Art & Craft Foundation was established to preserve the memory of historical Sonargaon with the advice and financial support of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the sincere efforts of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. The Bangladesh Folk Art & Crafts Foundation is popularly known as the Sonargaon Museum.
Founded: According to a government notification, the Folk Art & Crafts Foundation was established at Sonargaon in Narayanganj in 1975.

- Goaldi Mosque - Goaldi Mosque: The mosque was established in 1519 by Mulla Hizabar Akbar Khan during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah of Bengal, located in Goaldi, half a mile northeast of Panam village in Sonargaon. Sonargaon was a Mint Town of the Bengal Sultanate and often served as a royal capital. The Sultans frequently launched raids into Assam, Tripura, and Arakan from Sonargaon. The town was the principal administrative center of eastern Bengal, particularly the Bhati region. The area now falls under the present-day Narayanganj District. The mosque is one of the more elegant and ornate Sultanate-era mosques in the country.
- Shahid Minar - The Shahid Minar in Bangladesh commemorates the Bengali Language Movement of 1952, honoring those who died advocating for Bengali as an official language of then-East Pakistan. The movement arose against the imposition of Urdu as the sole official language, sparking protests. On February 21, 1952, peaceful demonstrators faced violent suppression, resulting in deaths that galvanized support for Bengali’s recognition as an official language in 1956.
Originally built as a symbol of cultural identity, the Shahid Minar was tragically demolished during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 but was rebuilt after independence. Its modernist design features intricate motifs and inscriptions, serving as a focal point for annual gatherings on February 21st, now International Mother Language Day. This day honors language martyrs, celebrates linguistic diversity, and promotes peace through multilingualism.
