The hike up Vesuvius was a highlight! - While staying in Sorrento we wanted to see Mt Vesuvius and Herculaneum so we could compare those experiences with our trip to Pompeii on a later date. We went to Vesuvius first thing in the morning which was great as it was cooler and we had better visibility of the bay. The hike goes up in elevation and it is very helpful to have water along the way. We stopped for lunch at an agri-tourism restaurant. The food was OK, but we ended up short on time at the end. Herculaneum was an interesting site, and seeing it in relation to Mt Vesuvius was very interesting. Our guide was less experienced and tended to repeat information throughout the site. We had a reasonable amount of time there. Bring your own beverages and snacks as the vending machines were unreliable and I put money in but got not product in return (not the fault of the tour). Pick up and drop off were clear and there were many stops to accommodate various participants.
