Highlights
  • Cape Town - The tour will begin at Cape Town with a pick-up at 06:30 AM as we set off for our Hermanus Whale Watching adventure. Cape Town is renowned for Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape of Good Hope, culinary experiences, romantic honeymoons, and wine tastings. The drive to Hermanus will take approximately 2-3 hours.

  • Sir Lowry’s Pass - This mountain pass on the N2 crosses the Hottentots Holland Mountains, reaching a summit of 460 meters. We will stop at the viewpoint, which is also used as a paragliding launch point, offering the best views of Strand Fountain, Somerset, and Sir Lowry Village.

  • Grabouw - Known as one of the world’s capitals of apple production, this village is home to the major company Kromco, which produces apples and pears. The region is also a respected wine area with many great wine estates. We will stop for refreshments, where you can purchase water, juice, or coffee.

  • Hermanus - The highlight of our day is the boat trip to see the Southern Right whales, conducted by our top supplier, Southern Right Charters, on a state-of-the-art boat like the Miroshga or similar. Upon arrival, you will need to sign a consent form, followed by a briefing from your skipper and an educational lesson about the whales and other marine species. The marine safari will last 2 to 3 hours. After returning, you can purchase a video of your tour at the kiosk. Hermanus is one of the world’s top 12 spots for Southern Right Whale watching. We will have lunch at Bientang’s Cave Restaurant, a fantastic place with views of whale watching, seals, seagulls, and cormorants. You can also walk on the cliffs for the best views of the village and spot Rock Daisy animals on the cliffs.

  • Stony Point Penguin Colony - This is an amazing stop on the itinerary and can be done either before or after the whale watching boat trip. We will stop here to see thousands of endangered African penguins, the largest colony at close range. Learn about these unique birds on our guided tour.

  • Peter Falke Winery - Nestled against the majestic slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands, Peter Falke Winery produces elegant wines. This boutique winery on Groenvlei Farm offers a blend of old-world elegance and modern charm. Visiting Peter Falke Wine Estate is a memorable experience, with lush gardens, vineyard views, and a chic tasting room where visitors can sample exceptional wines. Wine enthusiasts can choose from various tasting options, including guided tastings and wine and cheese pairings. There’s also an onsite boutique where you can purchase wines to take home as souvenirs.

  • Cape Town - The tour concludes with a drive back to Cape Town via the N2. You will be dropped off at your hotel or accommodation. The drive will take approximately 2-3 hours. Cape Town is well known for Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape of Good Hope, culinary experiences, romantic honeymoons, and wine tastings.

Additional Information

Heading out to look for whales. We are fortunate that the right whales often come very close to the shore, making them easy to watch. However, I recommend bringing a pair of binoculars for your next booking with us to observe whales that are further out to sea. A camera is essential if you wish to capture any memories, and a good zoom lens is advisable. Stay vigilant for the occasional rogue wave that often catches people by surprise. Spend the day whale watching in Hermanus and see the migration of Southern Right Whales off the coast from June through mid-November. Visit the largest colony of African penguins at Stony Point. Drive along the spectacular R44, Clarence Drive, passing by Gordon’s Bay. Sample some of the local wines at Peter Falke Wine Estates or at Cavalli in Stellenbosch, the heart of South African wineries. Discover what makes the South African coast unique from the rest.
