• Leoforos Poseidonos - The tour begins with the driver picking up guests from their doorstep, embarking on Greece’s most picturesque coastal route, the renowned Athenian Riviera, leading to Sounion. Here, visitors will find the magnificent Temple of Poseidon and the site of ancient silver mines. During the one-hour drive, travelers will enjoy views of islands, a lake, the azure Aegean Sea, stunning landscapes, and hear captivating tales of Greek history and mythology.
• Lake Vouliagmeni - A brief stop to marvel at an extraordinary geological formation, a thermal lake adjacent to the sea, surrounded by impressive vertical limestone walls. This is Lake Vouliagmeni. Guests can swim in the therapeutic waters and enjoy a gentle exfoliation from the tiny fish in the lake.
• Lavrio - Upon reaching the Sounion area, where the Temple of Poseidon is located, visitors will enter the beautiful National Park of Sounio, a mountain with a pine forest. The journey includes a well-maintained dirt road leading to the ancient site where minerals were processed to extract silver. Visitors will witness the technology used thousands of years ago, showcasing the innovative minds of ancient Greece. Along the way, many entrances to ancient mineshafts can be seen. Around 20,000 slaves worked here, and the silver drachma, the currency of the time, was widely accepted throughout the Mediterranean.
• Archaeological Museum of Lavrion - A small museum worth visiting to see some of the original silver drachma coins discovered in the area, as well as parts of the Temple of Poseidon’s decoration that will be seen later.
• Ancient Theater of Thorikos - Considered by some to be the oldest ancient Greek theater, built around 600 BCE. It features an intriguing shape, differing from the typical amphitheatrical design, and offers a stunning sea view of the island of Makronisos, a former exile island.
• Lavrio Port - A visit to the charming little port of Lavrion and the modern city, once an industrial hub. Arrangements can be made for lunch or dinner here if desired, or alternatively, 10 minutes away near the Temple of Poseidon, which is the next stop before returning to Athens.
• Temple of Poseidon - The tour’s highlight is the majestic Temple of Poseidon, overlooking the blue Aegean Sea with the sun reflecting on the water like gold, offering one of the most beautiful sunsets in a breathtaking landscape. A blend of history, mythology, and natural beauty.
