Highlights
- 16 S 100 E - Arrive at Desert Highlights at the chosen time. Your guide will outfit you with all of the necessary gear and drive your group to the start of the canyon. We’ll hike, climb, scramble, shimmy, and rappel through a beautiful red rock, water carved canyon. The finale of the technical section sometimes includes a swim through chilly water – refreshing during the summer months, though this quality prohibits us from comfortably visiting this canyon in all but the hottest months of the year. This tour is suitable for beginner and experienced canyoneers alike. Desert Highlights has experienced and knowledgeable guides that will literally “show you the ropes”, ensuring your safety and teaching you everything you need to know to descend the canyon safely. This canyon includes a 15-foot rappel and an optional 90-foot rappel. We are extremely passionate about our backyard and you’ll gain knowledge and respect for our desert environment while out on your Moab canyoneering adventure! This tour typically lasts anywhere from 4 to 6 hours.
Please be prepared to wade or swim through water in this canyon. We require closed toe shoes to be worn for this whole trip

Desert Highlights is Moab’s original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights’ founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990’s. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

Wonderful Canyoneering Adventure! - Our three person adventure with our guide Jake was phenomenal. His easy going personality put us both at ease, especially my husband and friend who aren't too crazy about rappelling since they aren't comfortable with heights.
Jake was patient and very informative about the area and plants. He also explained the rappelling process to the level of which we needed to know. Some people require little information! Not me! Jake is a true teacher!
The pace was perfect for our two rappels: Medieval Arch and Morning Glory Bridge. This was an excellent 'beginner' adventure with only a half day vested. DH will prepare you with a list of what is needed so you can successfully complete the rappel and hike.
I have used Desert Highlights for about 4 adventures now, and I will continue to do so! We were safe, entertained, taught and guided with the most thoughtful and kind consideration! Check them out! Love, love!!

Adventure with Jake - This was an excellent adventure! Our guide, Jake was very accommodating. The Viator site failed to tell us we would be chest deep in water at times, so we failed to bring appropriate footwear for that. Jake immediately pivoted and brought us on a different adventure that was just amazing. Two great rappels, some small stream crossings that could be negotiated without getting shoes too wet, and a 4 mile hike. A great 5 hour adventure!

Amazing Family Canyoneering Experience!! - Our canyoneering experience with Preston was amazing. He was very attentive to our family, ensuring an exciting experience while also keeping our safety first and foremost. Preston eased our minds with any trepidation with obstacles we were coming upon. He was also very interesting to talk to and knew a lot about the surrounding areas and topography. Cannot recommend him enough - tip him well!

Worth Every Penny - Preston was a fabulous guide to our family of 2 adults and 2 kids (9yr & 11yr). Patient on parts we had trouble with. Encouraging. Loved that this outfit takes all sizes no max or min weights. Also loved that it was a private one just our group. They were very safery concious too and chnaged our time so we got it in before storms. Thanks Preston!

outstanding canyoneering trip! - Our family of 4 had an incredible canyoneering trip with Herb through Desert Highlights! He was incredibly patient with all of us and made sure everyone felt safe and confident. Herb’s extensive knowledge of the area's topography and geography added an educational twist to the adventure. The routes were perfect, offering exciting challenges and stunning views. The whole experience was very personalized and one of the best adventures we've had as a family. We highly recommend Herb and this company for an unforgettable canyoneering experience!

big Young men group experience of a lifetime! - We brought a very large group of young men to experience Moab Canyoneering. We wanted a group that specialized in just what we needed. We chose Desert Highlights for that experience.eveeythi g went extremely well. From waivers, and planning to making sure the boys (and leaders) felt safe and courageous. Thanks to Melissa, Herb, Kai, Jake, Preston, Joe, and Kiera (hopefully, I got the names right and didn't miss anyone) were all so professional, fun, and kind. Any big groups out there that want an experience of a lifetime, this is it.

Great half-day Canyoneering trip - This was an awesome half-day trip and a great introduction into Canyoneering. Kai was a fantastic guide. She is so good working with novices and we had so much fun chatting with her. Now that we’ve had a small taste of rappelling, can’t wait to do it again!

Amazing canyoneering experience with an incredible, caring guide! - We chose Desert Highlights based on reviews, and we were 100% happy with our choice. We did the half day trip to Medieval Chamber and Morning Glory Bridge. My 14-year-old handled each rappel like a pro, but my 11-year-old had a really difficult time getting over his fear when faced with the drop. Our expert guide, Kai, handled this challenge with patience and skill. She was kind and supportive, and at the end of the day he said it was fun and that Kai was the best tour guide he’d ever met!
The hike after the rappels was beautiful and gave everyone a chance to cool off in the water. Don’t think twice about booking with Desert Highlights!

Great company, great experience. - My family (kids 13 and 9) went canyoneering with Desert Highlands in April and had an amazing experience. Could not give a higher recommendation. Melissa and Herb were fantastic - patient, encouraging- wonderful. This was my second time canyoneering with Desert Highlights and I hope to do it again.

Trip to remember the rest of our lives - This was our first time canyoneering and we are in our 60's with no prior rappelling experience. Ed was a Fantastic guide. We appreciated his expertise, guidance and patience. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, native plants and trees. Communication was great. I was able to talk to someone when setting up this trip who answered all my questions. This is an adventure we will enjoy looking back on the rest of our lives. Amazing! I Highly recommend Desert highlights!!
