Setting Sail on the Colorado

As the sun began to rise over the rugged landscape of Southern Utah, I found myself filled with a sense of anticipation and nostalgia. The open road had once again called me, this time leading me to the banks of the Colorado River for a rafting adventure that promised both relaxation and awe-inspiring scenery. My husband and I, along with our fellow adventurers, were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff of Adrift Adventures. Our guide, Eli, was a young man whose calm demeanor and wealth of knowledge immediately put us at ease.

The journey began with a shuttle ride along Highway 128, one of America’s most scenic highways. The landscape unfolded like a living painting, with towering red rock formations and the winding river below. As we arrived at Hittle Bottom, the starting point of our rafting tour, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to the countless travelers who had come before me, drawn by the same sense of wonder and adventure.

Our group was a diverse mix of families and travelers from around the world, each of us drawn to the river for our own reasons. As we shared stories and laughter, I was reminded of the power of travel to bring people together, to create connections that transcend borders and backgrounds. Eli’s easygoing style and genuine enthusiasm made the experience all the more memorable, and by the end of the day, we felt like old friends.

Lunch was a delightful affair, served on a sandy beach with the river as our backdrop. We feasted on sandwiches, salads, and fresh fruit, the simple meal made all the more enjoyable by the camaraderie of our fellow adventurers. As we continued our journey, Eli regaled us with tales of the area’s geology and ecology, sparking our imaginations with stories of rock formations that resembled everything from a sleeping man to a reptile’s back.

As the day drew to a close, we returned to the starting point, our hearts full of the memories we had made.
