At dusk, depart from Stewart Island’s Halfmoon Bay aboard our catamaran for a scenic cruise across Paterson Inlet to Little Glory Cove. During the journey, pass by Ulva Island, a predator-free sanctuary, and learn about the rich history of Stewart Island. Upon arrival at Little Glory Cove, disembark onto a wharf located at the southern part of the peninsula known as The Neck.
The guided walk, led by a knowledgeable nature guide, follows a well-formed track across the peninsula, through stunning coastal forest, leading to a secluded sandy beach.
As night falls and daylight fades, explore the native forest by torchlight, surrounded by the sounds of the night and the stars above. The walk takes approximately 45 minutes one-way and the track opens up onto Ocean Beach. This expansive sandy beach is a common feeding ground for kiwi, often found among the grasses and seaweed.
In the darkness, witness the Southern brown kiwi (Rakiura Tokoeka) foraging for food. Afterwards, retrace your steps through the forest to Little Glory Wharf for your catamaran ride back to Oban township on Stewart Island.
