During the Wild Kiwi Encounter, enjoy a guided walk by torchlight through the forest and along the beach to find the elusive tokoeka (southern brown kiwi).

Stewart Island Wild Kiwi Encounters
Embark on a magical evening adventure on Rakiura/Stewart Island. Start with a picturesque cruise around nearby islands (weather permitting), where you can observe rare seabirds and marine life such as albatross, penguins, and fur seals. As night approaches, reach your kiwi-spotting location for a guided walk beneath the stars.
Choose from two distinct experiences:
Wild Kiwi Encounter: Venture through coastal forests and along a secluded beach with a torchlight, searching for the elusive tokoeka (southern brown kiwi).
Wild Kiwi & Culture Encounter: Discover Oneke, a culturally significant area known as “The Neck,” where stories of Māori and European heritage are shared before your kiwi exploration. Conclude the evening with a warm beverage in a traditional whare (Māori building) before returning to Oban by cruise.
Important Information: Approximately 2 hours of walking is required. Paths may be muddy or uneven—sturdy footwear and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.
