Setting Sail to Turtle Cove

Ah, the Caribbean! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of the sun kissing your skin, the salty breeze tousling your hair, and the promise of an adventure on the horizon. This time, my wanderlust led me to the Southside of St. Thomas, where I embarked on the Turtle Cove Snorkel excursion. As a former pro surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but the allure of swimming with green sea turtles in their natural habitat was irresistible.

The day began at the dock of the Marriott Frenchman’s Cove, where I met our crew: Captain Joe, Katie, and Fernando. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and as we set off towards Little Buck Island, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement. The waters around St. Thomas are a mesmerizing palette of blues, and as we cruised towards Turtle Cove, Captain Joe regaled us with tales of the local wildlife, including the fascinating frigate birds that glide effortlessly above.

Fernando, ever the ocean enthusiast, even brought up a sea star for us to admire before gently returning it to its hiding spot. A Taste of Island Life at Honeymoon Beach

After an exhilarating snorkel session, we set sail for Honeymoon Beach on Water Island. Katie took charge of the sails, and as we glided across the water, I took a moment to soak in the beauty of the Caribbean. The open bar on board offered a delightful selection of drinks, and I couldn’t resist trying the famous “painkiller” cocktail—a refreshing blend of rum, orange, and pineapple juices.

Honeymoon Beach was a slice of paradise. With its soft sands and calm waters, it was the perfect spot to unwind. The local food shacks offered a mouthwatering array of dishes, from jerk chicken to tuna poke bowls. I opted for the latter, savoring each bite as I watched the waves gently lap the shore. The beach was alive with the chatter of fellow adventurers, all sharing stories of their own island escapades.

Of course, I couldn’t resist another snorkeling session. The waters off Honeymoon Beach were teeming with life, and I was lucky enough to encounter five more sea turtles. One of them had a unique pattern on its shell, reminiscent of a soccer ball, while another had a remora fish hitching a ride. It was a reminder of the wonders that lie beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered.

A Leisurely Return to Port

As the afternoon sun began its descent, it was time to head back. Captain Joe took us on a leisurely route around Water Island, offering stunning views of the bay in front of Charlotte Amalie. The journey back was a time for reflection, a chance to savor the memories of a day well spent.
