Birthday - On my birthday in early June we visited some villages in Umbria, including Spello , in our opinion one of the most beautiful.
It really deserves to be visited.

The city of flowers - Very romantic country. Every corner is super well-kept and full of flowers. Very kind citizens. Don't miss the Baglioni Chapel.

We love Spello, one of Umbria’s hidden gems!! - This was my 2nd time to stay in Spello, a lovely hill town just south of Assisi.. This visit I brought 7 ladies with me an 8-day stay at Albergo il Cacciatore, an established hotel with stunning views of the eastern hills & a most helpful staff!! To say we loved it would be an understatement..
Arriving in Rome, we took the train from Roma Termini station/ just a 2 hr ride to Spello. Our local driver with a comfortable 9 passenger van did our day trips to Cortona, Bevagna/ Montefalco & to Assisi & a 1/2 day trip to Deruta-
He was such a friendly & helpful professional driver..and he lives in Spello! And another local taxi driver Casimiro took us on an impromptu day trip to Rasiglia..he was available when Diego was out of town. even did trips to the grocery store & train pickups. We hired Umbria Con Me guide Francesca to tell us all about & walk us around Spello for first full day and later she was with us in Bevagna & Assisi.. so very knowledgeable & we were grateful for her insights and commentary.
Spello has all the elements for a perfect holiday: local wine & olive oil tastings, unique artisan shops, dining at our fav restaurants & wine bars.. great dining options all over this town.. & the hosts were terrific. Spello is an ideal location for an extended vacation or at least 3-4 days. Learn about the annual “Infiorata” flower festival that is one of Spello’s renown events..there are local concerts, kind and friendly shopkeepers & residents..flowers everywhere, walking trails.. Easy day trips to other ancient Roman towns by train or with a driver.. You sure to fall in love with Spello..We did..
Did I mention the hills?? We managed just fine & our age range is mid-50’s to 81!!
