A terrific place to begin our journey would be the citadel fortress located atop a hill in the ancient town of Hvar. Did you realize it was constructed during Venice’s era? This magnificent fortress overlooks the city, offering a stunning panoramic view that is simply mesmerizing. Descending from the fortress via a steep stairway that takes you through the Datallo Gate will lead you to Hvar Town’s central plaza. Starting at the St. Anthony church, which was erected under Venetian governance and features a splendid baroque bell-tower in the design of a spinning wheel, isn’t it stunning? Following this, we will visit the theatre located on the first floor of Hvar town’s arsenal. And don’t forget the monastery, where magnificent examples of Venetian High Renaissance art by painters Palma Junior and Francesco Santacroce can be admired. Wrap up your tour at Hvar’s Loggia, an exquisite example of Renaissance architecture. It once formed part of the Venetian governor’s palace.
