Additional Information

Join our guide for a tour of food, history, and culture in the ancient Diocletian Palace in Split, Croatia, which is 1700 years old. We’ll initiate our journey at the renowned Pazar (Greenmarket), allowing you to savor local ‘’arancini’’ and sugar-coated almonds to start off your day sweetly. Following this, we will enjoy a unique dish, Soparnik, accompanied by a glass of local wine, a dish that has even been protected by the UNESCO world heritage organization. As we walk the streets of this historic city, we’ll delight in traditionally produced prosciutto before making our way to a chocolate shop that even boasts a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest chocolate bar. From sweet to sweet, we’ll proceed to the oldest bakery to try the well-known rafiol cake. If you ever find yourself in Split, the Fish market of Split, called Peškarija, is a must-see. It holds the record for being the second oldest in Europe with original stands more than 120 years old. Here, we will introduce you to the traditional act of eating salted anchovies, a staple in the Dalmatian brunch, known as marenda.

Split food tour - We took part in this food tour in the morning of our first full day, having arrived in Split late the night before. Found it was a great way to navigate the city and get our bearings, using our guide’s local knowledge to help us get settled. Martha looked after us and shared some historical facts about the city, some recent and some old. Like with many parts of Europe, the borders have changed so many times and different nations have ruled over the city, which you can see in today’s food and the architecture. It was nice visiting the main market where you try local delicacies. Split is a beautiful compact city, which we have found easy to navigate and plenty of food options to try.

Culinary Culture Must Do! - Our guide, Marta, was so great! She was friendly, knowledgeable, eloquent, and fun. The culinary tour was a great way to get a taste of the local food but also of the culture and history around Diocletian’s Palace. And it was such a great price for the experience!

Fabulous tour! Fun and informative! - A really fun way to start getting to know Split. Jacov was very informative with just enough anecdotes to make it fun. The only less than stellar part was the wine tasting. The homemade stuff from one of the market vendors was, frankly, vile. They need to form a relationship with a proper wine producer and offer a proper local wine to taste or they need to take the wine tasting off the route. However, would highly recommend the tour. Great value!

Our favourite activity in Split - Our favourite thing by far from our trip to Split. Jakov, our guide, was informative, fun and friendly with lots of interesting snippets of history of the city included along with the history of the food we were trying and some absolutely delicious food and drinks to sample We met the local Croatian people who produced and sold the products too. The tour lasted for 2 hours and there were only 6 people in our group. Excellent value for money and highly recommend.

A delicious journey - What an excellent tour with an exceptional guide. We did the Food Tour on June 3 at 9:30AM with Marta. Marta is not only knowledgeable but also passionate about her country and culture. It was obvious she has a great rapport with the vendors. She made the tour fun for everyone, including my teens. Highly recommend.

Description and overview didn’t match. - Summary and tour descriptions don’t match. This is just a nice 1.5 hr food tour. The overview described a 2.5 hr tour including picking your seafood at the market for a meal prepared by a chef.

Nothing to review - tour was cancelled - Tour was cancelled less than 24 hours before and it’s apparently the only one in the entire city. Disappointed that there is only one your and o w guide who can do this tour. Was really looking forward to it.
