The range takes its name from a series of recumbent folds and peaks in the west of the massif which resemble the knuckles of clenched fist when viewed from certain locations in the Kandy District.
The higher montane area is often robed in thick layers of cloud. Knuckles Conservation Forest was included in UNESCO natural world heritage list in 2010 as part of Central Highlands of Sri Lanka.
Knuckles mountain range features 34 peaks ranging in height between 1900 meters and 900 meters. Five high mountain peaks of the range having formed in the shape of a clenched fist, the British in Ceylon named the mountain range Knuckles.

100% recommended - We loved the hike! We started through stunning light green rice fields, to then get into the forest, take a bath in a waterfall and then discover beautiful tea fields. The guide was super nice and you could also tell he was a nature expert, as he showed us the characteristics of every single tree or plant and knew the area like his own house.
I would totally recommend!

water falls trek with niro - we had very spacual day with niro, he took us to the waterfalls trek. one of the best days in our trip in this beutifull country!!!!

Knuckles amazing trip with Niro - Amazing trip in Knuckles. Nero is a charming, helpful and very professional guide, with a lot of knowledge and in-depth and detailed explanations for everything we asked, and all this in fluent and clear English. The trip included transportation from Kandy and back, coffee, tea, snacks, a delicious lunch and water that they carried for us. The route was stunning and was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my trip. I highly recommend a trip to Knuckles in general and Nero as a guide in particular.

Nero is a wonderful guide - Nero is a wonderful guide with a lot of knowledge. He was recommended by a friend. He has a flair for working with people. Along the way, he explains and shows many things about plants and animals. I haven't noticed this in other guides who were there with other people.
All in all, a great experience. Great views!
Drinks and food are always available to you. He even accommodated us by taking us to buy black tea because we expressed a wish.

Great hiking in the Knuckles - Great hiking day! We wanted to experience the Knuckles and admire the surroundings around Kandy. Thanks to Nero we had a great day out, hiking 13 km while getting to waterfalls and different view points. Absolutely recommend it!

Tracks not to be missed - We were on two tracks: the first track to five waterfalls, it was simply wow, a lot of water, an amazing view, a trip through the tea fields, lust for the eyes. The second route was in the mountains, including waterfalls and an amazing view, we walked in the rice fields. In the evening we slept in a lovely camp with a staff that provided excellent service, a good dinner and even light a fire for us for the evening. Nero the guide is very knowledgeable, answers every question, knows every tree and every mountain. The experience with him was the best.

A must do experience!! - We did the 3 days trek in the jungle. The trek with Niro in the jungles was the highlight of our trip!! Niro is an amazing guide, knowledgable and kind. We had an amazing time and I recommend it very much!! It is a great opportunity to connect to nature and wild life in sri lanka, and you get to see amazing views. It’s definitely a must do experience.

Trekking with nero - We did a 3 day knuckles trekking trip and it was perfect . Our guide nero spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable about the knuckles mountain range and the species and trees inside it.
In addition he was very sweet and great conversation.
There are many options for the trekking and you can choose the options that suite your physical abilities .
The views were great and different from what we saw in Sri Lanka.
We highly reccomend the 7 waterfall hike (15 km)

Waterfall hike - This hike was definitely a highlight of our trip. Niro is a great guide who knows a lot about the area and plants, so it’s not just about the beautiful views. We did a beautiful waterfall hike and even swimmed in one of them. Thank you Niro for this wonderful experience!

Overall great experience! - We initially booked the 20 km adventure peak climb. Due to the high temperature at the time (30°C), We asked to change to the waterfall trek two days in advance. This was no problem at all, so great flexibility! The hike turned out to be in a great and diverse landscape. A must do when you are in Kandy.
Niro was very knowledgeable and helpful. He spoke perfect English and had a good sense of humour - a bit like having a friend along for the hike. The whole practical side was very well taken care of (transportation, lunch, etc...). He was also very helpful during the hike. This helped to make the hike very doable, despite us not being extremely fit. For your information: we are in our early 30's, do hikes from time to time, but usually not with high elevation or warm weather.
