The main attraction at Udawalawe is the large herd of Sri Lankan elephants that reside there. With ample space for them to roam, this is the premier location to observe wild elephants in Sri Lanka. Udawalawe is also home to several other mammal species. Carnivores such as the rusty-spotted cat, the fishing cat, and the Sri Lankan leopard are occasionally seen. Many of our guides have spotted leopards in the park. Among the herbivores are water buffalo, axis deer, sambar deer, Indian muntjac, and spotted chevrotains. Primates like toque macaques and gray langurs also inhabit the park.
