• National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios - The Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios dates back to the founding of St. Augustine in 1565. On September 8, 1565, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés arrived and claimed this site for Spain and the Church, naming it Nombre de Dios, meaning Name of God. He appointed Father Lopez as the mission’s leader, making him the first parish priest in St. Augustine.
• Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine - The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is the oldest Catholic Church in the city and the oldest parish in the nation.
• Tolomato Cemetery - Situated in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest European-established city in the United States, Tolomato Cemetery was used from the 18th century until 1884.
• St Francis Barracks - Located on Marine Street, the St. Francis Barracks were built from coquina between 1724 and 1755 by Franciscan friars. The barracks were adapted for military use when the British took control of Florida in 1763. In 1821, Florida was acquired by the United States, and the US Army managed the barracks until they were deactivated in 1900. They were then leased to Florida State Troops, the precursor to today’s National Guard, in 1907.
• Castillo de San Marcos National Monument - Constructed by the Spanish in St. Augustine to protect Florida and the Atlantic trade route, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument preserves the oldest masonry fortification in the continental United States and showcases over 450 years of cultural intersections.
• The Oldest House Museum Complex - Also known as the Gonzalez-Alvarez House, this structure is owned and operated by the St. Augustine Historical Society and is the oldest surviving Spanish colonial residence in Florida.
• Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park - Pedro Menendez de Aviles established the city of St. Augustine at the Timucua village of Seloy, now the site of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park.
• Memorial Presbyterian Church - Flagler’s Memorial Presbyterian Church was dedicated on March 16, 1890. The congregation moved from the old Presbyterian Church on St. George Street to the new sanctuary, which accommodates 480 worshipers. Flagler built the church in memory of his daughter Jennie Louise Flagler, who passed away in 1889. He selected Carrere & Hastings, the architects of the Ponce de Leon Hotel, to design it. Its architecture is inspired by the Basilica of St. Mark in Venice, Italy.
• Bridge of Lions - Completed in 1927, the Bridge was built during Florida’s opulent land boom era. It was designed as both a functional transport for vehicles and a piece of art, linking downtown St. Augustine with Anastasia Island.
• Plaza de la Constitucion - The Plaza de la Constitución is located at the heart of our historic city. It is surrounded by the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, Trinity Episcopal, and the Government House. The plaza faces the Bridge of Lions and features a central pavilion used for city events, private gatherings, and live entertainment. There is also a public market that has been active since the 1500s, where fish, vegetables, and other goods were historically traded.
