Highlights
  • Oriel y Parc Landscape Gallery and Visitor Centre - The tour begins here, showcasing the eco-friendly exterior of the centre, a hidden garden, the legendary St Non’s Rocks, and a Neolithic picnic table.
  • Goat Street - Stryd yr Afr. Once a place of torment for local monks, now free of goats, we can pass through without fear.
  • St. Davids - Cross Square, St Davids, is the heart of the city, featuring the local market, iconic cross monument, and war memorial garden. You’ll hear tales of Welsh icon Owain Glyndwr and lesser-known stories about the brotherhood of St David.
  • St Davids Food & Wine - We pause outside this iconic local delicatessen (now sadly closed) to share stories about monastic beekeeping, Vikings, and a horse.
  • The Smorgasboard - One of the last surviving reminders of Viking influence in St Davids.
  • Stephen’s Lane - Visit the site of the city’s oldest recorded bed & breakfast (dating back to the 11th century) and hear about a famous former monarch who once stayed there.
  • The Farmers Arms - We’ll pass this iconic local inn and learn about the unusual origins of its name, plus you’ll see one of St Davids’ hidden gems: The Window.
  • St. Davids - Another stop in St Davids is Porth y Twr, the oldest part of the cathedral complex, home to centuries of ghostly rumors. We’ll hear stories of a dark monastic conspiracy against St Dai and see the remains of Wales’s oldest public outhouse.
  • St. Davids Cathedral - The tour concludes at the cathedral, where you’ll hear about an epic battle between the Devil and St Dai and the original monastery. We don’t descend the steps, so you’re free to explore the cathedral at your leisure.
  • St. Davids Cathedral - We stop at the back of the cathedral close, a charming part of the original cathedral complex, to share stories about the monastic brotherhood that lived here in the 6th century.

Additional Information

An original and hilarious comedy walking tour of St Davids, guided by “the actual” St David and his 11th century biographer. This is a unique experience, covering over 2,000 years of absurd and at times questionable local history, based on the medieval works of Rhygyfarch the Wise. Expect heavily-embellished stories from the perspective of Wales’s patron saint, as well as stories about Vikings, monks, and a leek, all within the beautiful surroundings of Britain’s Smallest City. This “brilliantly imaginative” tour is a must-do activity for anyone looking to do something different on their stay in Pembrokeshire, suitable for all ages.

St David IS your tour guide! - On a grey bank holiday Sunday in St David’s what better way to find out more about the smallest city in the UK. Die and Rug were totally committed to their mission and dressed accordingly and carrying suitable props. The tour was partly fact, partly myth and frequently elaborate fantasy but it was all the better for this. Be warned they haven’t a lot of time for Vikings. Well worth the price.

Witty and charming pun-filled account of the extraordinary life of St David - Witty and charming pun-filled account of the extraordinary life of the patron saint of many things including doves and pigeons. I could hardly believe my eyes and ears learning about a rock split in half by a woman with giant goalkeeper-like hands, dangerous caprines, a bee emporium, the secret tunnels and personal highlight of the tour, “the window” - behold “The Window!” Definitely worth the modest £10 fee.

Monty Pythons”life of Dai” - Stephen. Really enjoyed this witty and eccentric maybe not so accurate history of St David’s. Particularly enjoyed the psychotic goats and pesky vikings

The best walking tour ever! - This tour was brilliant. We met St David and Bishop Rug and were entertained throughout the walk. St David, Dave to his friends was so engaging, funny and characterful and together with Rug provided great entertainment. it was a pleasure to take part and join in. Would definitely do it again and worth every penny. The only downside was I am not sure whether all the tales he told stacked up!! We loved the leek which was used to stop the traffic, but didn’t always work! The window was the highlight and thankfully we didn’t come across any vikings although the story of the sheep still makes me giggle! The sound effects contributed by Rug were brilliantly simple, so funny and were the cherry on the cake. We would like to thank them both as it was a fitting end to a marvellous day spent in and around St David’s. I would heartily recommend this tour.
