Highlights
  • Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site - Please note that all times given are approximate. No need to rush:)

For a moment, you’ll be the easternmost person in North America. Experience the power of the wild North Atlantic crashing against the rocks, explore historical points of interest including the massive cannons installed to defend North America in WW2, and, weather permitting, ascend to the lighthouse for the most spectacular views anywhere.

  • Petty Harbour - Just outside of St. John’s is the quaint, working fishing village of Petty Harbour, home to Great Big Sea singer Alan Doyle.
  • Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s - An off-the-beaten-path coastal town on the Conception Bay shore overlooking the beauty of Bell Island. Here, we’ll stop for a meal of freshly caught seafood cooked up by the locals at By the Beach.
  • Signal Hill - Ascend the iconic Signal Hill, home to Cabot Tower, with unparalleled views of St. John’s, her harbour, the North Atlantic Ocean, Fort Amherst, and Cape Spear. From up here, the view stretches for miles!
  • Quidi Vidi - We’ll stop here towards the end of the tour if time permits. We usually have time:)

Additional Information

Having shared the story of Come From Away with almost a million people, and being partnered in life with born and raised Newfoundlander, Deneen, my passion for this, my chosen home, is what drives my desire to take you on this tour. My perspective on this land and her people and the connections I’ve made as a member of the Come From Away family make for a one of a kind experience for my guests. Come From Away…for awhile:)

All tours are hosted and guided by me, Deneen, our friend, Newwfoundland music legend Larry Foley, or, schedule allowing, combinations thereof! All 3 of us are connected to Come From Away and excited to welcome you inside the story:)

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TOUR TAKES PLACE IN ST. JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND, NOT SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK. Please check your itinerary. I’d hate for you to end up 1300 miles from me!

Beautiful sites, fun and educational - This was such a fun and educational tour! George and Larry were awesome, great conversation and knowledge sharing about Newfoundland. Their love and passion for the island were evident. We learned so much about the points we visited, the language, food and music. It was a small and intimate group which was nice. I'd highly recommend this Tour with George, you won't regret it.

Discover Newfoundland's Hidden Gems: A Personalized Tour Experience Like No Other - We've joined many tours worldwide, rarely write reviews, but this tour is exceptional. It's private/small, with a fantastic tour guide who loves Newfoundland and shares deep thoughts on various subjects. You don't feel any commercialism on this tour; it's like a friend (the guide) showing you around, making it a happy and relaxing experience. Towards the end of the tour, we saw a lady feeling dizzy at Signal Hill. George didn't just leave; he rolled down the car window to check on her and see if she was okay—a testament to his kindness! This tour definitely deserves a five-star rating. We feel fortunate to have found it and will join more of his tours in the future.

A Must Tour! - We took this tour so we could sit back and enjoy the sights! It is a perfect way to see St John’s and George is an amazing, congenial guide. He is loaded with knowledge, kept it interesting, and was entertaining. The sights we saw are: Blackhead Village, Cape Spear, Maddox Cove, Petty Harbor, Bell Island, Conception Bay, St Phillips, Portugal Cove with lunch at By the Beach, Quidi Vidi, and Signal Hill. The fish and chips were absolutely the best we have ever had; the fish (cod) batter is light and crisp. Enjoy!

Avoid like the plague - I booked this tour over 4 months ago and paid over $600 for it. At 5:30pm, local time the day before the trip was to start at 10AM, (16.5 hours) George sent me an email stating he was cancelling the tour for the next day. I sent him several phone messages asking what happened. He stated he had oversold the reservation and that I should understand “these things happen" He said he had contacted me over several days, but my phone number, my text message and my email had NO messages before 5:30 PM on the day prior to the tour. He offered to let us reschedule the same tour at 3PM. But since it is advertised as a 4-5 hour tour, and our boat was leaving port at 7:30PM, I declined. I did not feel that someone who took a reservation and the fee 4 months ago and then cancelled at the last minute could be trusted or believed. How, over a 4 month period, can you not be overbooked and yet 16 hours before the tour you say you are. I am guessing he received a tour request from a larger group that day before the tour and decided he could dump us for a larger fee. I would NOT recommend using such a shady tour operator, because if you do you may very well be hung out to dry, like he did to us.
