Enroute to Romney Manor, you will travel through Basseterre. In Basseterre, your tour guide will point out the historical sites of Berkeley Memorial, Immaculate Conception Catholic Co-Cathedral, Independence Square, The War Memorial, and many other treasured sites.
Upon arrival at Romney Manor, you will set foot on eight acres of grounds dating back to the 1600s. Located at Romney Manor is the largest living organism in St. Kitts, a 400-year-old, 24 foot in circumference Saman tree. Romney Manor, and the adjacent Wingfield Estate have had five family owners to date. The first owner was Samuel Jefferson II, the great, great, great grandfather, of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States. In the 1970s, Romney Manor became a batik enterprise. Caribelle Batik is an internationally recognized producer of fine batik products made of quality fabrics. Wingfield Estate is adjacent to Romney Manor. Wingfield Estate is one of four places on St. Kitts that has a 17th century Amerindian petroglyphs. The Wingfield watershed is a natural resource that deposits water into the Wingfield River. The watershed provides the island with more than three-fourths of the island’s water requirement.
After your tour departs Romney Manor, you will continue your journey to Brimstone Hill Fortress. As you travel on the island’s main road, your tour guide will direct your attention to Bloody Point, and other landmarks along the route to Brimstone Hill Fortress. At Brimstone Hill Fortress, you will disembark, and engage yourself on a tour of a UNESCO World Heritage Site of historical, cultural and architectural significance: a monument to the ingenuity of the British military engineers who designed it, with the the skill, strength and endurance of the African slaves who built and maintained it.
The final stop on your tour is South Friars Beach, where you can relax, snorkel, jet ski, paddleboard or soak up the sun. At the end of the tour, you are returned to Port Zante/or your local hotel.
