  • Soulard Farmers Market - We will pass by the oldest public market west of the Mississippi and a dozen other historic homes as we stroll through the historic Soulard neighbourhood where more than a few have died and some of our more salacious headlines were born. Our journey begins and ends in front of the International Taphouse at 1711 S. 9th Street.

Additional Information

Bank robberies, Voting Riots, bloody duels, sociopathic midwives and prohibition gangsters: these are just a few of our tour’s colorful details plucked from old headlines in this river city! Our walk through the past of Soulard will guide us down streets with post civil war buildings and take us by some of the best bars and restaurants in the city.

We are out to have fun and resurrect some ghastly stories of the past. Historic Soulard hosts the second largest Mardi Gras celebration in the US and for that reason they allow us to play by Mardi Gras rules every day. We can all brazenly carry alcoholic beverage through these streets - just ask your bartender for your drink “to go” and bring it with you as we loop around the neighborhood getting a dose of history and entertainment!

Fascinating, entertaining true crime storytelling! - Tim's engrossing storytelling, starting with famous St. Louis crimes from the mid 1950's and going back into its storied history, contextualizes the history of both Soulard and St. Louis as a whole amid Prohibition, the westward expansion of the United States, and numerous tensions that roiled the region and fueled the fires that boiled over into some of the most colorful crimes that merited mention during the tour. Well worth the time, and an easy stroll along the Soulard streets, especially on an enjoyable summer evening!

History Buffs, this one's for you! - This was by far one of the best walking tours I've done in a while. Not only did I get a tour of beautiful historic St. Louis (which I'd previously had a hard time finding the secret spots), but Tim is incredibly knowledgable. He is clearly a St. Louis history professional, but he's also measured in his storytelling approach. He provides a great range of stories, from the Civil War to Prohibition and combines it all with photos, newspaper headlines, and so much more. 10/10

Engaging and well prepared tour - We had such a nice walk! We went to Hammerstones for a burger after our tour, sat down and had a conversation with Denny Hammerstone and shared stories with him about Bloody Island.
