Out for a stroll - Great hike! Harris aka Swiss was informative, entertaining and constantly making sure everyone was comfortable during the shuttle ride. The hike itself is pretty tough especially in the humidity. But worth the views. Took us about 4 hours round trip (2 on the way up and a bit faster on the way down) and the ladies in the village were the best! (Thank you Maya (one of our guides and Jedara (I believe was her name if, not I apologize but she runs the shop in the village.)) Lunch at the local restaurant was delicious and we were happy to finally try some local dishes. Take the hike at your own pace, no one rushed us even when we were taking multiple breaks to catch our breath and grab snacks. Highly recommend asking for Harris if you want a fun ride before the hike!

Challenging but worth it. - Started with Harris and the drive out from Rodney Bay. He was great and made the 2 hour journey there entertaining. If you happen to get Harris, watch out for Stanley. 😊. The guides at the trail were great as well. The hike was something we were looking forward to and it surely didn’t disappoint. Can be tricky to navigate and having shoes with great traction is a must. The climb up is a cardio dream, coming down is an ankle breaker if you’re not careful.

Difficult hike. Good cardio base required - The hike included transportation from the hotel to the hike. A guide is required and the guides are great. The hike is very difficult on the second half. Three of the seven members in my group did not make it to the top. Lunch was provided in Soufriere which was very good St Lucian food. Make sure to have money for a tip for the guides and the van driver.

Safe and fun drive - We booked Gros Piton tour through our hotel with Cox. Driver was Herris from Superior Tour Services who was excellent. Not only did he navigate the roads and skirt around the traffic, he was also entertaining, engaging and informative.

Piton adventure - Our tour began with our driver, Herris aka “Swiss” picking us up from Sandals La Toc. Since most activities in St. Lucia require driving through rugged, twisty roads to make the time go by you need a great driver. Herris was that and more. Not only was he full of education of the island. He was also very full of entertainment. He was a very positive and encouraging tour driver.
As far as the actual hike goes… this hike can be difficult for those that are not used to rough terrain. The tour guides at the base of the mountain are great at making sure you make it to the top and back down safely. Remember, this is more than just a hike there are portions you will have to climb and use your upper body for balance and to be able to pull yourself up on large steps/rocks.
Don’t forget to eat some homemade ice cream on your way back down at the bottom of the mountain. ⛰️
I also would like to nominate Herris to become the new Ambassador for St. Lucia.

Great views - The hike to the top was difficult, but very rewarding. I can say I hiked Gros Piton and survived now.

Pheww - This hike kicked my ass both on the way up and on the way down. The trail is very steep and the giant boulders made it even harder. Like most people before me, I didn’t think I would make it but it did and I was very proud. the view from the half way point is better than the view at the top but it was still beautiful. Will I do this again?.. probably not but I’m happy I did it.

At a certain point, the... - At a certain point, the hiking becomes rock climbing and is no longer really hiking. I thought that the tour overall was fine and it was organized well. However, I felt that the tour guides jokes were not appropriate at times and he said something that wasn’t appropriate to me towards the end of the tour when he was trying to collect tips from everyone. While this particular part isn’t that much of a big deal, I did notice that he sat down to eat the meal with us. However, on another tour I went on the tour guide directly stated that he wasn’t going to eat with us because he was working and trying to separate professionalism from being personal. This made sense to me because you should always try to be professional when working.

Tough hike, good exercise but a grueling drive - My wife is a fitness trainer and I’m a regular class attendee. We both also weight train consistently but this was still a tough hike. There are very few flat spots on even ground. The hike is mostly over rocks and boulders. One of the guides told us it was about a 50% completion rate and we understand why now.
It took our group about 5 hrs round trip including the 20 mins or so at the top. The way up is difficult and it takes your body a little while to adjust but overall not too bad. However, you follow the same path down and this is where it gets really tough. The fatigue hits you and you just want to be done but you have to be very careful with every step. I was wearing good trail shoes but still slipped a few times. Others in the group went down hard a few times but survived. In our way down we passed someone who was not so fortunate. Let’s just say this isn’t the place you want to have a broken leg bone.
Two more things to mention that are not so positive: it was crowded at the top and there were only rocks to sit on. This would have been a nice spot for some benches but it is the top of a mountain so I get it. Also, traveling on this island is the worst. The roads are narrow, full of potholes and incredibly winding. If you get car sick easily you will want to stay near the airport or near the excursion areas. The lunch provided was good, but not a buffet as it says.
Overall, a good experience and we felt accomplished making it to the top but I would not do again.

Piton Hike - My guide Jason was horrible. At the quarter point of the hike where there is a bench for a break. After a short minute break I was ready to go and he said "go ahead and I will catch up". I walked for less than 5 minutes and then stopped when he was not coming. I waited almost 10 minutes and he did not catch up. I hiked the rest of the way up alone. Luckily there were tour guides headed down giving me tips. On the way back down I met up with another group and the guide for that group was great and said it was wrong for my guide to leave me. I almost twisted my ankle before I met up with this group. My guide met up with me half way back down and did not take accountability for leaving me. I complained to the main office when I returned and have not received a response about getting my money back.
