Portela, a legendary icon of the Brazilian carnival, is marking its 100th anniversary. Established in 1923, Portela emerged in an area where the black community, in a city scarred by slavery, sought refuge, resilience, and direction. Since its inception, Portela has been a cornerstone of samba tradition, amassing 22 titles and becoming the most decorated champion of the Carioca Carnival.
