Highlights
  • Parque Nacional da Tijuca - After your guide picks you up from your hotel in Rio, hop in an open Jeep and buckle up for a fun ride! Drive to the edge of the cityscape and enter Tijuca Forest, located just 10 minutes from the city center. You’ll hear about the important reforestation program of Tijuca National Park and learn the importance of the Mata Atlântica ecosystem — part of the vast and protected Mata Biosphere Reserve, which covers 14 states in Brazil.
  • Cachoeira dos Primatas - See the waterfall during the hike
  • Vista Chinesa - Get a nice perspective from the Tijuca Rainforest. At Vista Chinesa (Chinese View), capture sweeping views of Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, Guanabara Bay and even as far as Niteroi.

The lookout was built between 1902 and 1906. The oriental-style pagoda is a reference in honor of the Chinese who brought tea cultivation to Brazil in the early 19th century.

Made of bamboo and cement, and situated 380 meters above sea level, it is an important tourist spot in the city.

  • Emperor’s Table - Enjoy the beautiful view of the city, as did the Royal family several times.

It was at this table that Dom Pedro I, when he wanted a meal in the middle of one of the most beautiful views, would leave his residence at Quinta da Boa Vista and, with his cart, would head towards Estrada da Vista China.

At an altitude of 487 meters above sea level, the Emperor’s Table is set against stunning views of the city, counteracting urbanization and nature. Stairs surrounding the parapet of the area lead the tourist to the edge of a concrete ramp, making the tourist feel in the midst of a splendid setting.

  • Capela Mayrink - Take a short stop at this historical chapel. The little pink chapel in the middle of the woods, 460 meters above sea level, resembles a house of children’s history. It was erected in 1860 by the Portuguese banker Viscount de Souto inside his farm, in Tijuca Forest. The Chapel is one of the attractions of Tijuca National Park. Adorn the altar reproductions of panels with holy images of Cândido Portinari. The gardens, as well as the Carrara marble and tiled patio tub with frowning spout, were designed by landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx.

Great experience - We really enjoyed this trip. The guide was very knowledgeable and he did a running commentary throughout, pointing out interesting facts along the way. We got to see lots of monkeys which was amazing. I would highly recommend this experience.

Memorable experience of Tijuca Rain Forest visit - The entire experience was memorable. Of course the Tijuca Rain Forest was spectacular, but the jeep experience was fun. The driver was experienced and stopped at the interesting spots and the tour guide was the best; she not only spoke good English, but was surprised to see her conversing in fluent German with a German couple.

Great experience - This is a must! Both are driver Gabriel and tour guide Caio (sorry about the spelling) were great. Caio was extremely knowledgeable. My mother wasn’t able to do all of the hiking and was able to stay with the driver. Pick up was on time and we moved through the city in the open air jeep to the jungle.

Fantastic Tour - This trip was exactly what I wanted. The pickup was on time, driver was excellent! Our tour guide, George, was fluent in at least 5 languages and made everyone feel welcome. None of the tour felt rushed and the sights were spectacular. George was extremely knowledgeable about the plants and the park. He also shared information about how the Brazilian people live and his sense of humor and jokes kept us all laughing. Great job!!!

Sergio, the coolest guide - It was a great and chilly tour with a lot of local information and positive energy from Sergio. Luckily we had a chance to see a monkey, tucan, coati (brazilian raccoon) and that they was not overcrowded!

Jungle Adventure - Two members of our party went on the tour. They said it was a fun adventure, and they enjoyed seeing the monkeys. Although in their 20s, they said the hiking was a bit strenuous or difficult.

Trip from Hell - Jeep broke down TWICE - This truly was a trip from hell. The jeep was supposed to come at 8.45 but after 3 calls from the hotel to Gray Line, arrived at 9.45, 1 hour late with no apologies. Apparently the local tour company had been given the wrong hotel (Windsor Cope) instead of our Windsor Mirimar despite the exact address being put on TripAdvisor. In our first call to Gray Line we asked them to confirm the exact address of pick up but they kept just saying the jeep was on the way. We also messaged Gray Line but they never responded and there were no communications they would be late at all. The forest visits were very basic, a nice waterfall and a good observation point and a walk past the visitor centre, but nothing amazing for the expensive price paid. If you have visited the real amazon, just don't bother with this - not a single animal to see. The emperor's table which is on the itinerary was skipped as they said there's nothing to see there. Don't believe this tour will stick to the itinerary. Then the jeep engine broke down and had to be replaced with another jeep which we waited for. On the way back the replacement jeep broke down with an exhaust failure. At that point 4 of us abandoned the tour and took a taxi instead of waiting for a 3rd jeep to come. Photo included of guide having to push our 2nd jeep. The guide said jeeps are from the 1970s and breaking down is common. Clearly there is absolutely no maintenance and these jeeps are run into the ground. Not a single apology from the company that something was wrong with this tour. A whole group of tourists on a stranded jeep in the middle of nowhere in Rio. Please please consider your safety and if you really want to book this tour with such an unreliable and poor company.
