Modernism in the Garden, with Excellent Guides - This was an excellent tour with Monica B. and Alan (our driver). It ended up being a private tour with just my husband and I as tourists. We couldn't praise her enough for her professionalism, her deep knowledge of her subjects, and her warmth and personal charm. Monica is a very knowledgeable guide, and took excellent care of us the whole way, even pointing out locations of interest along the way to the Sitío. She translated the Protuguese site guides' remarks for us, but she was also able to give us a lot of background on Roberto Burle Marx as a person, how he used his home, and some of his background. The gardens are spectacular, the landscape architecture is inspirational for anyone who gardens or just enjoys a pleasure garden. The nation of Brasil has done an excellent job of maintaining the site as it was meant to be. It was a unique and enriching experience for us in our exploration of Rio de Janeiro.

Great Visit to Sítio Burle Marx!! - We really enjoyed the tour to Sítio Burle Marx!! He was not only an accomplished landscape designer, but also a very talented painter and sculptor. The sitio contains numerous plants from all over the word, and various settings where he experimented with different characteristics for growing the plants. In his home, where he lived until his death in 1994, contains numerous paintings by Burle Marx as well as from other artists. Our tour guide Monica was also excellent. She was very knowledgeable of Burle Marx’ life as well as his many accomplishments. Monica is very friendly, and in addition to sharing her knowledge about Burle Marx and Rio de Janeiro, provided great conversation as we explored the sitio. Overall, a very nice afternoon if Rio>

The driver / guide from... - The driver / guide from the hotel was excellent company and spoke good English. Also the guide at Burle Marx's sitio was very informative and an excellent English speaker. All organised very well and excellent value for money.

Excellent guide, extraordinary site - The site is one of the world's greatest gardens and one of the best house museums I have seen. The guide shared information about Brazilian culture, the city of Rio, and the Sítio Burle Marx and was able to translate the on-site group guide's Portuguese discussion of the property into English for me to understand better. In addition to being fluent in several languages (Spanish, French, Italian, as well as Portuguese and English), he was cordial, intelligent, and kept our little group in order despite misbehavior from the other two tour customers.

I do not recommend - The tour is not even a tour. The guide is just a driver and the tour is only in English through the museum guy. I am absolutely disappointed with this tour.

Not a tour. It’s an overpriced uncomfortable transport to Sitio - Advertised as a group tour, but the transport provided was a compact car. We were two people crammed in the back with a third client for a 1 hour trip, each way. Very incomfortable. No notice the day before of the transport nor that we were traveling in a car intended for private tours, and not a van as is the norm for group tours. Carioca Tours did nothing to resolve the situation, did not provide an alternate vehicle suitable for this type of tour. Did not answer our calls but responded by text with the excuse that it is an automated number and can not take calls, however texts were responsed by a person on the same number. The tour guide Renato was very unprofessional and did not handle the situation in a respectful way. Zero attention to the clients comfort. Stopped at a gas station and very aggressively threatened to abandoned us in the middle of nowhere. When we refused to get out of the car he slammed the door on us. Avoid this tour, it is overpriced for what it is. Get an uber for $10-$15, and pay the entrance at Sitio which is about $3-$4. This is an overpriced transport to Sitio, the tour guide did not provide any service. The tour at Sitio is provided by one of Sitio’s guides. We ended up taking an Uber back to Rio. Do not book tours with Carioca Tours, terrible service and lack of attention to paying clients needs.

As above - My trip with Cariocas was cancelled by them less than 24 hours before scheduled visit. They said next available date was in four days time. I requested to reschedule if possible. Less than 14 hours before visit still awaited response from Cariocas . When asked they were unable to advise about either the visit or repayment. It would appear that booking money is taken one, two or more weeks prior to tour but Cariocas do not buy any requisite tickets until a day before scheduled visit. No financial outlet by them , whilst money paid earns interest. When you ask about reimbursement the response - let me have your booking reference. At best this is utter incompetence, or worse a scam. Unreliable service.
