Their knowledge of the wildlife both on land and in the sea is huge and you will finish the tour invigorated in the story of the effort that has seen decades of work in protecting this little piece of New Zealand’s paradise.

You will kayak the amazingly diverse coast seeing open beach, reef, and estuarine habitats along with the wildlife that populates these areas. You will stroll through the amazing forest and along the coast looking at a myriad of natural wonders.

For lunch, you will have Devonshire tea and scones at the historic Dacre Cottage 1850 and hear about the adventure of Captain Ranulph Dacre.

Our Eco Tour offers an incredible 3.5-hour adventure through the natural beauty of the Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve and its surrounding native forests, both on foot and by kayak.

Discover and learn about some of the world’s most endangered shorebirds, such as the New Zealand Dotterel, Variable Oystercatchers, Caspian Terns, Royal Spoonbills, Bar-Tailed Godwits, and more. Hear fascinating stories about the area’s rich history and see how early settlers lived.

Your local guide will share numerous tales and even show you how to make bush scones and a cup of tea.

You’ll paddle along the diverse coastline, exploring open beaches, reefs, and estuarine habitats, and observing the wildlife that inhabits these areas. You’ll also walk through the stunning forest and along the coast, taking in a variety of natural wonders. For lunch, enjoy a cheese platter with tea and scones at the historic Dacre Cottage.
