- Stirling Castle - Stirling Castle stands as one of Scotland’s most remarkable castles, renowned for its commanding location and stunning architecture. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy views of the Forth Valley and two significant Scottish battle sites – Stirling Bridge (1297) and Bannockburn (1314). During the Wars of Independence with England (1296–1356), Stirling was fiercely contested and frequently changed hands.
Stirling Castle is not only one of Scotland’s most magnificent and imposing castles, but it was also a favorite residence of Scotland’s Stewart monarchs. James IV constructed the Great Hall, the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland, and James V’s Royal Palace, with its richly adorned Renaissance façades, was a masterpiece of its time. Mary Queen of Scots spent her childhood in the castle. The Great Hall’s refurbishment was completed a decade ago, featuring unique stained glass windows with clan crests.
- Bannockburn - Bannockburn is the site of one of the most significant battles in the Wars of Independence. Robert the Bruce triumphed over a much larger English army, marking a decisive step towards Scottish independence. Robert the Bruce fulfilled the mission initiated by William Wallace to secure Scotland’s independence. After Robert Bruce killed Sir Henry de Bohun on the first day of the battle, the English withdrew for the day. Sir Alexander Seton, a Scottish noble in Edward’s army, defected to the Scottish side and informed King Robert of the English camp’s low morale, suggesting they could win.
Robert Bruce decided to launch a full-scale attack on the English forces the following day, utilizing his schiltrons as offensive units, a strategy not employed by his predecessor William Wallace. The English army was defeated in a pitched battle, resulting in the deaths of commanders, including the Earl of Gloucester and Sir Robert Clifford.

National Wallace Monument - The Wallace Monument is Scotland’s national tribute to the memory of William Wallace. The monument is a tower offering panoramic views of Stirling and the Forth Valley. Visitors can reach the top of the tower via a spiral staircase.

Stirling Bridge - Old Stirling Bridge is the site of William Wallace’s greatest victory over the English army during the Wars of Independence. In May 1297, William Wallace killed Sir William Haselrig, the English sheriff of Lanark.
In September 1297, Scottish forces, under the joint command of Andrew Moray and Wallace, confronted the Earl of Surrey’s army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. The Scottish army positioned itself to the north-east of the bridge, allowing Surrey’s army to cross before launching their attack.
The English cavalry was ineffective on the boggy ground surrounding the bridge, resulting in many casualties.
