Highlights
  • Stirling Castle - Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s most impressive castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture.
From Stirling Castle , visitors can take in views of the Forth Valley and two of Scotland’s most important battle sites – Stirling Bridge (1297) and Bannockburn (1314). Throughout the Wars of Independence with England (1296–1356), Stirling was hotly fought over and changed hands frequently.

Stirling Castle is not only one of Scotland’s grandest and most imposing castles, it was also a real favourite with Scotland’s Stewart kings and queens. James IV created the Great Hall, the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland, and James V’s Royal Palace, with its lavishly decorated Renaissance façades, was a masterpiece of the period. Mary Queen of Scots lived in the castle as a child .
The refurbishment of the Great Hall was completed ten years ago . A unique feature is stained glass windows featuring clan crests .

  • Bannockburn - Bannockburn is the scene of one of the greatest battles in the Wars of Independence. Robert the Bruce defeated a much larger English army and took a decisive step towards victory in the Wars of Independence . Robert the Bruce completed the mission that William Wallace had started - to achieve the independence of Scotland
  • National Wallace Monument - The Wallace Monument is Scotland’s national monument to the memory of William Wallace . The monument is a tower with panoramic views of Stirling and the Forth Valley . The top of the tower can be reached by a spiral staircase

Scotland adventure in a day. - Our tour guide David was very knowledgeable and perfect with timing, so we were able to see everything without being rushed, and had time to eat lunch and dinner.

A glorified Uber to some great sites - I took multiple organized trips when I stayed in Edinburgh, some with smaller groups some larger but the one I really looked forward to, this one, and chose a private tour for was the most disappointing. What I got was a glorified Uber driving you to the tour destinations. My driver was a nice enough but in no way as engaging and knowledgeable as any of the drivers of the more commercial trips I took. I would even say I did not really feel safe having him read rudimentary information of his iphone to me while driving. If you are a history buff put on your earphones. He said he was doing the job for a few years! Must have been other tours. The sites were great, catch the free guided tours at Stirling (every 30 min) and Bannockburn (every hour on the hour). I missed the latter because I did not know. All in all it's all about the driver. I got a car service and maybe that is fair, but I experienced what it could be on other tours that were much longer and where I paid. So it left me wanting and definitely go for the funner bus option next time.
