Introduction to Stockholm archipelago and kayaking

Downtown Camper by Scandic - We will pick you up at a central location in Stockholm city for a 45 minute transfer out to our Kayak Center. You will be welcomed by our certified wilderness and kayak guides who will be giving you the thorough briefing before you set out on your trip. With some Swedish Fika (beverage+snack) you sit down together with the guides to talk about the archipelago, the kayaks and equipment, kayak safety, weather and navigation. With our map, the kayak trail routes and the GPS on your phone it’s easy to navigate. Together with the guides you decide on a suitable route depending on the weather and your preferences. The guides help you pack the kayaks and there is plenty of time to ask all your questions. The guides will also be available 24/7 via the Kayak Trail Guide Phone throughout your journey.

Stockholm archipelago - In the afternoon, you look for the perfect campsite for the night among the many small islets and soon find a place you like. The tent and other equipment is easy to get up, and soon you are ready for the night. Time for a refreshing swim before it is dinner time. Using the equipment and the pre-set food menus, you cook a nice meal on the outdoor stove. Food tastes fantastic when you eat in nature. Let the waves and wind put you to sleep.

A day in Bullerö Nature reserve

Bullero Nature Reserve - After a nice morning with breakfast and perhaps a morning swim (a “Swedish classic”), you sit together and plan the route. Depending on the weather forecast, this might be the day to go out to Bullerö Nature Reserve.

Bullerö is an archipelago classic, with plenty of bird life, a typical archipelago nature and rich in culture and history. Here, people have been living of what nature has had to offer since the end of the 1600’s.

Stay here and linger for half-a-day-or-so, go on a short discovery hike or visit the hunting lodge of Bruno Liljefors, where art from famous Swedish artists Anders Zorn, Axel Sjöberg and Albert Engström from the early 1900’s is on display. Finish the day with a sauna session in the cosy public sauna.

Discovery day!

Stockholm archipelago - Take this day to discover some more! Here are some of our favourites:

Långviksskärs Nature reserve is a maze of some hundreds of islands far out to the east with the horizon as it’s only neighbor. With the right weather conditons you might be able to go out and visit the beautiful island of Tärnskär, a well-kept secret with its lovely laguna.

The island of Nämdö is a rather large island just south of Runmarö with a lot of activity during summertime. Visit the restaurant in Solvik, show for snacks or have a swedish fika at the café. The watch tower on the northern part of the island is popular, as is the public sauna in Långvik.

The Lazy day is a very underrated alternative in this world of speed, tight schedules and constant demands to deliver. Dare to go against the stream and plan a day of.. nothing! Sleep in, discover the island you are currently on, or just chill on the cliffs with a good book. It is when you cut yourself some slack that the famous “quality time” happens.

Heading back to civilization

Stockholm archipelago - Another beautiful morning out on the islands. You have a different feeling in your body after some days kayaking. Calm and focused in your mind and a bit tired in the muscles from the kayaking and hikes on the island. During the day kayaking, you stop for a long lunch on an island, and for an afternoon swim and a cup of coffee. In the late afternoon you arrive back at the Kayak Center.

Downtown Camper by Scandic - Tip! Round off your experience in Stockholm with a dinner in the city, and a day of sightseeing before returning home.

Incredible trip - Myself and my husband booked on to the 4 day self guided trip for the start of our honeymoon and it was incredible! One of the guides Jonathan was there to greet us and hand over all the food and equipment we needed for 4 days. He gave us some excellent tips on a route and camping spots - including one island which had a sauna! And even gave us some pointers on correct kayaking technique. Views were amazing - really peaceful time of year to visit and we got lucky with great weather. The food was also incredible - was not expecting such high quality tasty meals when camping - some examples of meals were Swedish meatballs and mash, halloumi and vegetable hash, herring and crackers, Brie and more. Can’t recommend this trip highly enough. And the Jonathan is a credit to the company! ☺️

Absolutely outstanding! - We did a three-day self guided kayak & wild camping tour. The company provided gear and food for us, and everything was of the utmost quality. Gear was so clean, I honestly thought thought most of it was brand new. We had all we needed, everything fit in the boats, the food was more than adequate (& delicious). The man we worked with directly in getting us outfitted for the the day (Adam) was personable, warm, and humorous. He provided us with adequate instruction for safety, navigation and comfort (note: we both had enough prior kayaking & camping experience to do the unguided trip; if you have never kayaked before or have limited outdoor experience, the guided tours might be a more suitable option.) When we returned from out tour, the staff that greeted us & helped us unload (Gunner & a young woman whose name escapes me) were equally warm and friendly. We had a relaxing time just having a coffee and chatting with them about the trip. The Stockholm archipelago is STUNNING! One would be hard pressed to find a way to make it better, and yet these guys did! They created a trip that memories are made of. We'll be back & we'll use them again. Big Thank you to the entire team!! - Tina & Silke (from New York)

Fantastic trip, friendly, professional company. - A wonderful experience. We don’t have much kayaking experience but these guys provide the kayak and quality camping equipment. We had a great 4 days. We were collected from Stockholm, having flown in the previous day, and taken back at the end of our trip. We chose the food package and had easy meals for each night plus lunches and plentiful snacks. We were greeted at the start point with drinks and snacks and shown where to check the weather (and wind) to help us plan our route and had a phone number for 24 hour back up if needed. They suggested a route and pointed out some good camping spots. You can paddle as far as you want each day. We stopped for lunch and a leg stretch after a few hours each day had a rough idea where we wanted to camp that evening. As there are so many islands there’s plenty of choices for camping places and no need to paddle long distances if you don’t want to. We found some lovely spots to camp. I’m late May the Baltic was still a bit too chilly for swimming but there was a lot of bird life to watch. The archipelago is very scenic and peaceful, Highly recommend. We’ll hopefully be back.

Unforgettable Trip! Friendly, Professional and the only way to visit the Stockholm Archipelago properly - Well where do I start. The experience from start to finish was seemless, friendly and professional. I planned a 3 day trip for myself and 5 friends and from the first initial contact with Jakob &Adam to the final day they couldn't be more helpful, answered all questions we had and couldn't be more accomodating, they reccomended places to eat, easiest way to move around the city too and from the airport. We we're collected from the Hotel on the Tuesday morning in a pre arranged Transfer, on arrival at the centre we were greeted by Adam with snacks,Tea and fresh Coffee. It was like we had known each other for years, nice and friendly greeting making us feel really welcome! We proceeded to walk through all the equipment we had including a detailed safety brief. Adam provided a map of the area with a reccomended route to take along with some campsites we may be interested in. We chose a couple to take a look at on our travels and Boy they didn't disappoint! BEAUTIFUL views! We also opted for a food package per person, we had so much food! We had fresh meal options aswel as loads of snacks, I think we may have come back heavier than we actually went, we ate like Kings! Highly recommended taking the food package, worth every penny! I could go on for ages about our trip! But I'll summarise it in one sentence. This is the only company to go with if you want to kayak and camp the Stockholm archipelago properly, Don't miss out! I'll be back near year for sure

Best Kayak tour in Sweden!!!! - Absolutely incredible tour!! We have already booked our 2nd one!! This was my first kayak ever together with a group of friends and Jakob and Adam gave us a brilliant introduction and all the information we needed for the kayaks, equipment, and trail. Felt super safe the entire time and it was amazing to be able to do this tour on our own! Loved the great tips and secret spots to camp that they gave us, and all the equipment was so good, we cooked amazing meals in the nature as easy as at home!! Easily one of the best nature experiences I’ve ever had. Cannot wait to be back!!

Amazing kayak trip (for both beginners and experienced) - We rented 2 double kayaks with friends on the 4 day self-guided tour and had an absolutely amazing experience (despite very limited kayaking experience from anyone in our friendship group). The kayaks and the rest of the equipment (e.g. tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment) were all brand new and in very good order. Jacob and Adam were extremely helpful and kind at the start of the trip and proposed a great route for us, with amazing islands, an interesting route and great places to stop at. The Swedish archipelago and its sunsets/nature was really beautiful. I strongly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to explore the archipelago - whether beginners or experienced kayakers!

4 day self guided - Jakob and his team aw really friendly and helpful. The kit (kayaks, tents, sleeping bags/mats) are all high quality, clean and so well maintained that everything feels like new. We were provided with lots of helpful advice before we started so we knew exactly where to go to get exactlynwhatbwe wanted from the trip. We ordered the food package, which was excellent. It included recipes for traditional Swedish dinners, which we cooked up - they were delicious!!!! We had a truly wonderful time and thoroughly recommend The Kayak Trail if you're considering kayaking in Sweden.

Amazing experience - The kayaking team provided us with the amazing chance to explore the beautiful Archipelago. The equipment provided was absolutely first class. The advice given and knowledge of area again could not fault. Life is too short not to do stuff like this. Would highly recommend The Kayak Trail.
