• Järntorget - Järntorget served as a commercial hub on the town’s outskirts, beyond the city wall, during the Middle Ages. During the festive season, it becomes one of Stockholm’s many squares adorned with a Christmas tree.
• Den Gyldene Freden - Visit one of Stockholm’s oldest restaurants, Den Gyldene Freden, a favored location for “julbord” (a must during this season!). The upstairs, known as the Bellman floor, is where the Swedish Academy has held their weekly Thursday dinners since the early 1900s.
• Själagårdsgatan - While “Julklappsrim”, “Kalle Anka”, and “lussebulle” might be tricky to pronounce, Swedish Christmas traditions are incomplete without them.
• Iglesia Alemana - The German influence in Stockholm was significant during the Middle Ages – half of the population and City Council members were German; the Hanseatic League controlled trade; the wealthiest citizens were Germans, and German language and culture were prevalent. Consequently, many Swedish Christmas traditions have German origins.
• Brända Tomten - The square’s name, Brända Tomten, translates to “the burnt property.” In the 1700s and 1800s, residents of the Old Town needed insurance to receive assistance from the fire department. A sign above the door, depicting a Phoenix rising from the flames, indicated insurance coverage.

Brända Tomten is an ideal spot to admire candelabras glowing in the windows while wandering the cobblestone streets of Old Town.

• Stortorget - Stroll through the Christmas Market at the main square, Stortorget, and savor the aroma of roasted almonds and warm glögg (mulled wine) in the air.

Stortorget, the main square in the Old Town, has always been the heart of Stockholm. If cobblestones could talk, they would have countless stories to tell! Today, it is home to the Nobel Museum, dedicated to one of Sweden’s greatest inventors and his legacy.

• Storkyrkan - Discover the Lucia Day traditions celebrated on December 13th, featuring the “Lucia train” or procession, with lit candles and singing, held at Storkyrkan (and many other churches and venues in Stockholm on this day).

The Stockholm Cathedral is one of the city’s oldest buildings, where King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia exchanged vows. In 2010, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel followed suit.

• Gamla Stans Polkagriskokeri - The tour concludes at Gamla Stans Polkagriskokeri (or another venue) with Glögg, mulled wine, gingerbread cookies, and a taste of polkagris.
