Energetic young men and women operate rickshaws, and many people dressed in kimono make it a fantastic spot for photos!
• Akihabara - This district epitomizes Tokyo, brimming with electronics, anime stores, game centers, and unique “maid cafes”—an experience unlike any other worldwide. A visit to the Mitsukoshi department store on the way to the fish market is worthwhile; this grand building features French and Italian marble beneath a skylit ceiling and once housed a baby elephant!
• Tsukiji Fish Market - Although the old fish market is no longer, the “outer” market remains a favorite, bustling with small restaurants and a vast selection of street foods, including seafood, wagyu, and seasonal fruits. Alternatively, the Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai at the new market offers a more sit-down dining experience with diverse options.
• Imperial Palace - The tour continues through the outer gardens of the Imperial Residence. While the royal family resides there and the residence is intentionally hidden from view, the beautifully sculpted trees and views of the stone bridges are delightful. The drive will also pass several other significant sites en route to the next destination.
• Meiji Jingu Shrine - Another shrine worth visiting! This one is nestled within a lush forest of over 100,000 trees spanning 170 acres, offering a serene escape from Tokyo’s bustling streets. Built in honor of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Shoken, it is an ideal place to pray for a harmonious relationship and recharge before the next stop.
• Takeshita Street - A vibrant area teeming with diverse fashion, street foods (crepes, strawberries, and candy apples are popular), and animal cafes. Gwen Stefani famously adored Harajuku fashion, and while trends evolve, this remains the hotspot for Tokyo’s latest styles.
• Shibuya Crossing - Fans of Fast and Furious, Lost in Translation, or Hachi: A Dog’s Tale will want to visit the iconic Shibuya crossing. Even if unfamiliar with these references, witnessing the bustling energy of Shibuya crossing is a must-see experience!
