Highlights
  • Bengawan Solo - traversing the river via a bamboo bridge or a traditional vessel, contingent on the time of year
  • Koramil 10 / Mojolaban - within a span of 3 hours cycling around my hamlet, you’ll encounter more than what a whole day’s journey typically offers. Engaging with inhabitants in their abodes as they toil in their home-based industries is a delightful means to experience Indonesia.

A trio of hours spent pedaling through paddy fields, hamlets, and over rivers on elongated bamboo bridges adds just a touch of excitement to my tour program, which holds greater value.

The tour is accentuated by stops at local enterprises producing alcohol, crafting Gongs for Gamelan (the traditional Javanese ensemble), Tempe (a vegetarian option in Indonesia), and Karak (rice crackers).

A good view of life and working in the villages around Solo. - We had an amazing trip. The cycling was easy along the rice-fields and in the small villages. The highlights of the tour were the visits to the different small scale industries. It was really nice to see what happens inside the homes and workplaces and to meet the people working and living there. We visited a rice-cracker workshop, a bronze gong making facility and a place that is supposed to produce only alcohol for pharmaceutical purpose. It still tasted okay ! Ajib was a very good guide and had clearly prepared well to get us inside all the places while respecting the social distancing protocol because of the covid-19 situation. At the end of the tour we were served a very nice lunch with local dishes.
