• Wat Mahathat - 15:30 Hours: (30 Minutes) Wat Mahathat, established in the 13th century, is one of Ayutthaya’s oldest and most significant temples, housing the Buddha’s sacred relic.
• Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon - 16:15 Hours: (30 Minutes) Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, or “Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory,” features a prominent prang (tower). Built in the late 14th century during King U Thong’s reign, it remains active with resident monks. The monastery’s current name was adopted in the late 16th century when a large chedi was constructed. A notable Reclining Buddha statue, draped in yellow cloth, faces east. Despite destruction during the 1767 invasion, it remains a must-visit site.
• Wat Chaiwatthanaram - 16:45 Hours: Wat Chaiwatthanaram is renowned for its Khmer-style architecture and picturesque riverside setting. It’s a popular spot for late afternoon and sunset visits. Locals in traditional attire often pray in the evening, adding to the ambiance. Watch for bats emerging at sunset. Restoration of one stupa is ongoing but doesn’t affect the sunset view. (We’ll return to enjoy the illuminated temple in the evening.)
• Historic City of Ayutthaya - 16:45 Hours: (40 Minutes) River Boat Ride around Ayutthaya: Experience Ayutthaya’s riverside culture, exploring local villages, ruins, ancient city, pagodas, and temples from your personal boat.
