- Wat Mahathat - 15:30 Hours: (30 Minutes) Wat Mahathat: Built in the 13th century, this is one of the oldest and most important temples in Ayutthaya’s history, as it housed the Buddha’s sacred relic.
- Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon - 16:15 Hours: (30 Minutes) Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, or “Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory,” is notable for its towering prang. Constructed in the late 14th century during King U Thong’s reign, it remains active with resident monks. The monastery received its current name in the late 16th century when a large chedi was built. In the northeast, a large Reclining Buddha statue, draped in yellow cloth, faces east towards the sunrise. Like many structures in the area, it was destroyed during the 1767 invasion. It’s a remarkable site worth visiting.
- Wat Chaiwatthanaram - We will pass by this temple, as it is beautifully viewed from the river. 16:45 Hours: Wat Chaiwatthanaram: Known for its stunning Khmer-style architecture and picturesque riverside setting, this is one of Ayutthaya’s most iconic and well-preserved temples. It’s a popular spot for late afternoon and sunset visits. Many locals in traditional attire pray in the evening, adding to the ambiance. Watch for bats emerging from the buildings at sunset. Although one stupa is under restoration, it doesn’t affect the sunset view. (We will return to enjoy the illuminated temple in the evening.)
- Historic City of Ayutthaya - 16:45 Hours: (40 Minutes) River Boat Ride around Ayutthaya: Experience Ayutthaya’s riverside culture, including local villages, ruins, the ancient city, pagodas, and temples, from your own private boat.
