An Utterly amazing day trip - An absolute marvel of a days trip looking back into historical events past regarding WW11 and the POW camps involved with the building of the bridge over the river Kwai. A shocking and devestating tragedy for all those prisoners involved against the aggression of the Japanese army. They all say we forgive but will never forget. I would say never forgive and never ever forget the atrocities that the POW men suffered in such an inhuman way under the Japanese invaders. Both the driver and guide were marvellous and thank you to both of you for such an enlightening although a somewhat humbling experience.

An Memorable Tour - Mrs. Oh and Mr. Sanae are the most wonderful, kind, and sweet tour guides I’ve ever met and was honored to be in their presence. Mrs. Oh have that motherly warm vibe that made this tour all the more better. They made this feel more than just a tour, but family spending time with each other. Mrs. Oh and Mr. Sanae will give you a time that you won’t forget.

History of the railway - A good trip to learn the history of the railway that goes from Thailand to Myanmar. The guide was alright, the transport was good even though it takes a long time to get there from Bangkok. They also tried to pick up everyone at their hotels, which was not very clear when communicating with the organiser.

Exceeded expectations - Our tour guide was Rache. Extremely professional and efficient. Explained history and significance of each location with great detail and enthusiasm. Even had my wife who hates history hooked. Mane modes of transportation covered. Would recommend the long boat commute to end of the Kwae bridge to round off the whole experience.

Great Day to River Kwai - We had a great day on this tour. Rach was a great guide and got us to see all the sites. He also provided the history behind this tour which made it more relevant. Everything was just great on this trip for us. I would highly recommend this tour.

Worth the long day. - Good to visit this historic sight. Felt rushed at the museum but to get everything in and lunch (very good) and get back within 11 hours was tough. Wouldn’t bother with the ‘speedboat’ part.. only 5 minutes trip. Be prepared for a very long day. Worth it.

The lack of a 'guide' for the 'guided' tour was disappointing. Buy late, overpriced if bought early. - The format of the trip was fine, the execution less so. Starting at 6am is not great for many, it can lead to late arrivals, especially since only a few fancy hotels are used for pickup. I imagine the traffic could be better but most of the journey is out of town anyway. The main issue with this particular trip was that the guide was not really informative and, when he did speak, off-colour and non-PC jokes in broken English were not useful or welcome. A major problem was that we were not 'guided' but simply told "We are here for X minutes, meet at the bus there", which is a chauffeur service really. The JEATH museum was a case in point, we were told to walk through the exhibit and meet afterwards, no context from the guide at all. It was fine but no different to going there under one's own steam. However, there was supposed to be 'model' exhibits - soldiers and prisoners etc - we did not see these and were whisked away, basically, we saw a room of photos, not a great experience. The lunch place was well situated - great river view - but one is having lunch at 11:30am - in our case with no breakfast - so it is a strange experience. We had particular trouble because, despite a large range of buffet food available, there was no food suitable for Vegans at all. There was a nice walk available from the lunch place, "cave over there" was the guides indication. We walked along that track too, the cave is actually worth visiting, no guide information however. The optional 25-minute boat ride up to the bridge itself was confusing - we missed the chance to do it because we thought about it - having spend the entire day on similar boats in Cambodia just before - and they were gone. It turns out that it is more like 10 mins so not really worth the extra money anyway. Similarly, with the train journey, we were told we should buy the VIP seats because, otherwise, we would stand for an hour instead - the regular train fare was included. We opted for the regular journey - like the locals! There were almost no locals and there were plenty of perfectly fine wooden seats available, although the guide neglected to mention where we got off (the original bridge station as it turned out) so we had to go looking for him in the good seats to find out. The train itself was hugely delayed, twice, so we had to wait at the station for a long time, they didn't bring the vehicle to replace the journey - it is just a hot train after all - so we arrived home at 6:30 instead of 4 or so, not a big deal but annoying without food etc. Overall ,it was the price (50% higher because I booked in plenty of time as well, which is unfair and annoying), without that guided experience, it is a series of shuttles between trains and boats, all available to all, so no benefit for an expensive layout was experienced.

Some extra information - The trip was good albeit one or two things could be improved. The tour guide should put the guests needs before his own and not keep guests waiting and waiting so he can finish his lecture or get a life home - he shouted in the van rather than spoke and at that early in the morning it wasn't great plus the train journey was too long at 1 1/2 hours not the 1/2 advertised and we sat down in normal seating only to have to move to the third class carriage with limited seating because that was all that was paid for - they should have provided the better seating not the cheapest seats(a bench). On the whole though it was a very enjoyable trip if not a bit long.

Good Tour, bad transport. - Really long day, it's true, but worth it for what you experience and see. Left at 6am, didn't get back until 5pm+ The guide (mr OOm) was great, very clear instuctions and information during the trip. He provided some interesting suggestions and was full of information. Great guide. The trip is as advertised. I loved the train (sit on the right side!). However; my issue with this trip and the low score, was the poor quality of van which the group was travelling in. The chairs were broken, the van had definetly seen better days. The driver was great, but van was terrible, seats uncomfortable. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend this tour. You're spending many hours in the van, it should be a higher quality, especially for the price.
