Highlights
  • Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - Guests will meet your guide for this half-day tour in the lobby of any downtown accommodation in Chiang Mai before heading out to marvel at some of Chiang Mai’s most notable monuments. The journey commences driving out of the city centre towards one of the most sacred temples in the country. The 600-year-old temple of Wat Pra That Doi Suthep, near the summit of Suthep Mountain, has to be an unmissable stop for any serious Chiang Mai aficionado. After a drive up the mountain’s winding road, the final climb to the site is via a magnificent Naga (dragon-headed serpent) staircase of 306 steps. Inside is an intriguing copper-plated Chedi topped by a five-tier gold umbrella which contains partial relics of Lord Buddha. On a clear day, there are incomparable views over the city of Chiang Mai.
  • Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara - After descending via the serpentine road down to Chiang Mai and the continuation of our tour, we reach the holy grounds of the Wat Chedi Luang. Once the home of the famous Emerald Buddha, it has become of the more revered temples in Chiang Mai. This temple once possessed the tallest Chedi until an earthquake in the 15th century toppled the upper section. Today, it still towers 60 meter high.
  • Wat Phan Tao - Then, continue by walking to Wat Phan Tao, an ancient temple is known for its exquisite Lanna-style ordination hall entirely made of teakwood, it is one of the few remaining all wooden structures of its sort in Chiang Mai.
  • Warorot Market (Kad Luang) - The last stop is made at Talat Warowod, the city’s biggest market. A beehive of trade, it is located in the heart of the city and has long been favoured for its hustle and bustle. Particularly the wet market section is favoured where fresh fruits and vegetables in season form a colourful palette.

After leaving the market, we head back to your downtown hotel.

Excellent tour - We went to doi Suthep, phra lay, and chedi luang. Timi was an excellent guide. She customized the trip for us per our request. At the end of the temple tour we went to warorot market. She knows the market like the back of her hand, took us to best shops for street snacks and food. Overalll, we had an excellent experience. Do not miss Phra Lat!

Awe Inspiring, Knowledge Instilling. - Our guide, "Nu" (?sp) was soft-spoken yet engaging with perfect, easy-to understand English. He had amazing knowledge of history and world affairs. He was happy to take pictures for us, but did not pressure us to take a picture every minute! We did a walking tour of the center of town and saw things beyond what was on the itinerary. We started at What Phan Tao, a small temple, but in authentic Lanna style. We then went to a vendor who sold candles based off the day of the week we were born. We lit this and added it to the others as we made a wish. Next to the massive "pyramid", Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara, with its huge carved elephants. We made an impromptu stop at a place where Bhuddist monks sat outside with the goal of improving their English by speaking with strangers. I learned a lot about a monk's life in a dialog with an 18 year old monk. Now into the A/C van (thankfully, as the day was hot!) for a wiggly ride up to the Wat Phra That Don Suthep. If you get carsick, you should consider taking seasick medicine for this ride. This temple was impressive with lots of gold. The crowd has dwindled a bit since it was 4:00 PM. We got more than our money's worth on this trip with awe-inspiring, knowledge instilling experiences!

Enjoyable & knowledgeable tour of temples & Chiang Mai - Very enjoyable tour with extremely nice and knowledgeable guide - highly recommend this half day tour. We selected the afternoon private tour option and they were very flexible to our needs, however I’m sure this tour would be great in small group too. We learned a lot about the temples and Chiang Mai.

Beautiful afternoon activity in Chiang Mai - Informative and friendly guide Krisada gave us an afternoon well worth the money. All three temples turned out to be magical subjects for my camera. Visit to Doi Suthep included a short ride to the top by a funicular but you could also scale over 360 steps on foot. Views and atmosphere in all places priceless. Transportation between the three temples by a comfortable, air conditioned van. Highly recommended. Tour starts at 1pm and you are back in time for dinner.
