The songthaew (pickup truck) drops visitors at the trailhead, where the journey to Wat Pha Lat begins. This path has been traversed by monks for years to ascend Doi Suthep (Suthep Mountain) on their way to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple. The hike along the Monk’s Trail to Wat Pha Lat typically takes between 30 and 40 minutes.
Welcome to Wat Pha Lat, the hidden jungle temple! Built in 1355, its ancient stone structures, detailed carvings, statues, and numerous tranquil spots for meditation make it a true hidden gem in Chiang Mai.
Total time includes travel time from Chiang Mai.
- Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is regarded as one of Thailand’s most sacred pilgrimage sites. The temple is accessible via the ‘dragon staircase,’ featuring over 300 steps flanked by a ‘Naga’: a mythical seven-headed serpent. Alternatively, visitors can take the cable car (costs not included).
Upon reaching the temple grounds, visitors will encounter statues, pagodas, shrines, bells, and Buddhist artwork. The original chedi, adorned with copper, is the temple’s most sacred element. Visitors will gain insights into the temple’s history and the significance of the wall paintings, which illustrate the life of Buddha.
Perched 1053 meters above sea level, the temple offers stunning views of Chiang Mai and the Ping Valley beyond, best enjoyed on clear days free of clouds or heat haze.
After the visit, guests will be returned to their hotel.
