Highly recommended, especially for families - We booked after spending a day trying to find a tour where we could bring our 9 and 5 year old children- every other operator we found has a 10 or 8 year minimum age. The tour itself was fantastic- Jokull, Lucas and Heather were knowledgeable, friendly, and great with kids, using humor and good spirits to get them excited. They were brilliant at making it feel like a real adventure while maintaining safety and a kid-friendly pace. Best of all, it was just our family, while most of the other tours (which cost the same or more) had 10-20 people. We also got to go on a new route which they'd just carved out that morning, while again most of the other tours went on the same route which was like a highway at times. Glacier Encounters is great for a personalized experience- with kids or otherwise. Highly recommended!

I recommend the 3-hour shared tour. - On Day 12 of our two-week travel through Iceland, my spouse and I took a shared three-hour glacier hike with "Glacier Encounter." They also offer "private hikes" and "extreme hikes" on the glacier, but for novices like us the three-hour shared tour was ideal–a great introduction to the glaciers in Vatnajökull National Park. You are given complete gear, assisted with properly putting it on, and then take a small bus to the edge of the glacier. There you put on crampons and begin your hike. I am sorry I do not remember the name of the guide who led our group, but I will post a picture of her. She was terrific. She was very attentive to all the members of our group given we were of different ages and experience. Safety was always a primary consideration. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a great deal about Iceland glaciers along our hike. I can highly recommend this experience.

Fantastic guided hike - The guided hike, led by Damon, was beautiful. The hike up to the white ice was a lot more steep than we had anticipated, over 600 feet. Damon shared his knowledge, and watched each one of us carefully, with our safety and enjoyment his top priority. All four of us are in our 70's. I wouldn't call this an "easy" hike, for anyone who isn't in good physical condition. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. Great tour, excellent equipment provided, and helpful, courteous, attentive staff.

A once in a lifetime experience! - Walking on top of a glacier was a unique experience and I would highly recommend this tour company. Our guide, Hanka, did a great job. I was reticent about the activity, and nearly chickened out at the last minute, fearing it would be too hard for me to do. Hanka was patient and kind-and made sure even unathlectic, clumsy me could succeed at this adventure. The walking was mostly easy (as long as you are moderately fit), and the views were pretty. The tour company gives you all the equipment you need, and made sure everyone was safe.

Great glacier hike with Asta - We had an excellent Glacier Encounter hike with Asta. She was simply amazing: technically supercompetent, paying great attention to security of all, professional communicator, passionate AND knowledgeable about the Icelandic nature. The best local guide we could imagine. In the end we spent more time on the ice than what is written in the program and we are happy for this unforgettable experience. Thank you Asta!

Great glacier Tour - Interesting Tour, with beautiful glacierlabdscape. We also received lots of information from our guide Hannah. She also extended the tour, it was langer than 3h. Absolute recommendation!

Excursion on the largest glacier in Europe - Beautiful 3-hour excursion on the largest glacier in Europe. Very knowledgeable guide, friendly and available in answering questions/doubts/curiosities about the glacier. They provided us with crampons, harness, ice ax and helmet. Easily reachable meeting point, from here the guide took us by car to the foot of the glacier where he gave us some basic knowledge on how to move on the ice. An experience that I would recommend to anyone organizing a trip to Iceland.
