TREKKING FROM SHYABRU TO LAMA HOTEL (2470 M)
Langtang National Park - The trek begins here. The path crosses the village of Shyabru, passing terraced fields and a dense forest of oaks, alders, and bamboos. The Langtang Khola River is crossed via a large suspension bridge. A series of ascents and descents through landslide-prone areas ensures the day is engaging, despite the sparse houses in this wooded region. The trail crosses the turbulent Langtang Khola again before a steep climb to Rimche at 2,250 meters. The descent to Changtang, known as “Lama Hotel” (named after the first lodge built in this hamlet), is gentle.
TREKKING FROM LAMA HOTEL - GHORA TABELA - LANGTANG (3400 M)
Langtang Valley - The trail gradually ascends through the forest, offering glimpses of the clear blue river below through occasional breaks in the trees. Suddenly, as the path turns a corner in the clearing, the magnificent Langtang Lirung (7246 m) comes into view. After crossing a suspension bridge, the trail leads through yak-filled meadows to Ghora Tabela, a pastoral village mainly inhabited by Tibetans. Continuing upward, the trail widens the valley, revealing numerous traditional Tamang houses and the first manis, or prayer walls. The approach to Langtang is marked by its Tibetan-style, flat-roofed houses.
TREKKING FROM LANGTANG TO KYANJIN GOMPA (3870 M)
Kyanjin Gompa - The path winds through the largest village in the valley and ascends a ridge dominated by a large square chorten and its long prayer wall. From there, a small moraine offers a stunning view of the Kyanjin gompa. A short descent leads to the lodges and the local cheese dairy. In the afternoon, there is an option to hike to Kyanjin Ri (4773 m), which provides a remarkable viewpoint: Langtang Lirung (7227 m), Yala Peak (5050 m), Langshisha Ri (6560 m), and the Urkeinmang Himal massif (6143 m), among many other peaks. Alternatively, one can explore the wide Langtang valley, which gently rises towards the yak summer pastures.
ASCENT OF TSERGO RI (4984 M)
KYANJIN GOMPA - LAMA HOTEL (2470 M)
Lama Hotel - Descend along the same route as the outward journey.
LAMA HOTEL TO THULO SHYABRU (2250 M)
Thulo Syabru - Descend along the outward journey path following the Langtang Khola, until a small path on the left is taken. The path is slightly rough amidst the ferns. A stunning viewpoint is reached. Shortly after, a flat area is reached, revealing the village of Thulo Shyabru. Perched on a ridge with its white chorten at the village entrance, it offers a beautiful view over the foothills of Tibet. At nightfall, the changing colors of trees, hills, and distant snow-capped peaks create pleasant memories and delight photographers.
THULO SHYABRU - THULO BHARKHU - KATHMANDU (1350 M)
Kathmandu - Return to the track with alternating coniferous forests and pastures. The final views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges unfold before a long descent. Upon reaching the road, a car awaits to transport back to Kathmandu.
