Ortigia Island, the birthplace of Sicilian culture, is a sanctuary of art and culture.
Our authorized guide begins the Ortigia Walking Tour from the Temple of Apollo, Sicily’s oldest Greek temple, constructed in the 6th century BC. On open days, you can visit the Church of San Filippo Apostolo in the Giudecca. Here, you’ll discover a hidden Ortygia beneath the surface, where you’ll see the crypt, a bomb shelter used during World War II, and the well, previously a baptismal font.
Your journey continues to Piazza Duomo, where you can marvel at city hall, Palazzo Beneventano, the bishop’s palace, the Church of Santa Lucia, and especially the imposing Cathedral.
Next, you will proceed to Fonte Aretusa. On your return, you’ll traverse the Jewish Quarter until arriving at Piazza Archimede. Here, you’ll get to behold the grandeur of the Fountain of Diana, connected to the myth of the Nymph Arethusa.
