Highlights
  • 3 Ortigia Street Market, - After meeting at the large white Ortigia sign in Piazza Pancali, Tonia will walk you through the island’s popular food market to enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of this interesting piece of Sicilian history.

  • Za Bar - At this stop, you will enjoy the tour’s first savory item - a crispy flat bread, a pizzolo, stuffed with delicious accidentally-vegan caponata - and learn about its Sicilian and Arab-influenced food history.

  • Temple of Apollo (Tempio di Apollo) - Learn a bit of history about one of the most important ancient Greek monuments in Sicily and spend a few minutes taking photos with the help of Tonia or taking selfies.

  • Corso Giacomo Matteotti - Enjoy a short stroll up Corso Matteotti which is one of the island’s popular streets and is lined with shops and boutiques. This will give you the opportunity to decide which shops to return to after the tour is completed.

  • Fountain of Diana - We will view the beautiful Fountain of Diana, learn about her story, enjoy the lovely Piazza Archimede, and have another opportunity to take Instagram-worthy photos. As usual, Tonia is happy to be your photographer.

  • Viola Bakery - Our second food stop includes your first sweet treat. This is a delicious opportunity to experience the popular Italian crostata. Whether breakfast, a snack, or dessert, anytime is a good time for crostata!

  • La Piazza Duomo - The grand Piazza Duomo is the highest point on the island of Ortigia and introduces you to the island’s gorgeous Baroque architecture. You can admire the exteriors of the stunning Siracusa Cathedral, the Palazzo Senatario (Town Hall), and the Santa Lucia Church. This is another wonderful opportunity for photos. Admission to the monuments is not included.

  • Sabadì - Bottega e Cantina di Affinamento del Cioccolato - Siracusa - This lovely artisan Sicilian chocolate shop features handcrafted, cold-pressed delights. All chocolate tastings are free and unlimited. It also makes excellent gifts.

  • Arethusa Spring - The beautiful Fountain offers a bit of mystery and mythology to the tour. You will learn about the tragic love story that brought this unique freshwater spring to the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. What adds to the wonder of this lovely spot are the papyruses, grasslike aquatic plants that are very rare in this part of the world. Plan to come back in the evening for the island’s beautiful sunset.

  • Maniace Castle - We will walk along the water to the stunning castle perched on the edge of Ortigia. This massive stone fortress protected the city of Syracuse for eight centuries. You’ll learn a bit about its long history, and we’ll have time for more photos! Admission to the Fortress is not included, but Tonia does recommend returning to explore the monument at your own pace. **This stop is time-dependent, so at the height of the busy season, it may not be included.

  • Giardino Aretusa - Next, we’ll wander through the lush, shady garden, along the sunny marina, before heading back to the center of Ortigia.

  • Arancina - Next is our third food stop that includes a savory Sicilian favorite - the arancina. This stop will give you the chance to sit, rest, and enjoy your meal while you learn more about the Arab-influenced street food staple.

  • Statua di Archimede - We will visit the Statue of Archimedes for a bit of history and our final photo opportunity!

  • Voglia Matta - This is our last sweet food stop and the tour’s grand finale! Whether you are craving sorbet, vegan gelato, or Sicilian granita, you will find a flavor or two to devour! Tonia will share a little more Sicilian food history and give her heartfelt goodbyes while you enjoy the cooling treat.
**This stop may change depending upon the gelateria’s hours of operation.

Tasty Discoveries with a Fantastic Guide - We had a great vegan street food tour with Tanja. She was very friendly and engaging. The selection of venues was fantastic, and the food was truly delicious. We discovered many new dishes that we hadn’t encountered before. The organization of the tour was excellent, and we learned interesting historical stories about the city and the food. It was also very nice that the tour is interesting for non-vegans as well, and Tanja was open to that, even if you're not a vegan.

Amazing food & experience, value for money - Tonia gave us the perfect experience to learn about the area of Ortigia while eating all of the best foods in the area. It was wonderful walking around learning the history of Siracusa as well as their food all at the same time. Excellent value for money and a perfect few hours spent whilst on holiday.

My Favorite Food Tour - What a fantastic food tour! We did the Ortigia Vegan Street Food Tour. It was the very first food tour in YEARS that I was actually full before it was over! Often it is small bites of food and you have to eat a meal after the tour. Not this one. The food was varied and delicious. Because Tania is willing to do small tours, she is open to the input of her clients and asked us - would you rather this or that...about food choices which was amazing. While neither of us are vegan (but very plant leaning) it was so nice not to have to worry about my food (dairy) allergy. I have just moved to Ortigia and this was a great tour to introduce me to several shops and restaurants I will want to frequent. Not only did she talk about the places we went, but she gave helpful tips for other places on the island as well. The best part (as if there could be more) is Tania's personality. She is kind and funny and it is clear all of the businesses really like collaborating with her. Now when I visit those same places, the owners and staff remember me and are welcoming to me and I am sure that is because of Tania! A great introduction to the island as a resident. I will be taking other friends on this tour!

Full of delicious surprises! - Tonia offered a fun and lively walking tour through the charming streets of Ortigia. We learned some history, laughed, and enjoyed lots of tastings of traditional Sicilian foods. You don't need breakfast or lunch on this tour, we tried arancini, granita, panelle and more and we both left VERY satisfied! We would highly recommend this tour to others visiting the area!

An All-Around Wonderful Experience - Tonia's Vegan Street Food Tour is an all-around wonderful experience. This is SO much more than a vegan food tour! As we walked around the island, we also got to take in some of the beautiful and historic sights, while Tonia told us about the local history. By the way, she's fabulous! She is funny, insightful, engaging, and more. What is more, it was delightful to witness the fun relationships she has with people at the eateries we stopped at! On that note, the food was fantastic! From sweet to savory, over the course of 3-hours, we got to enjoy a (more than) full-meal treat. We can't recommend this tour enough!

You don’t have to be vegan to love this tour! - This was one of the best tours we did in Sicily! Ortigia is a very special island to see, and the vegan food was so delicious! You do not need to be vegan to enjoy this tour. We had 4 non-vegans in our family on this tour and they all enjoyed the vegan food. The restaurants themselves were fun to visit to see how food is served in another country. Tonia knew all the restaurant owners, which made it a great experience. The restaurant MOON was especially pretty with fun decor and very kind owners. The walk around Ortigia was also a lot of fun and very interesting. Tonia was a special person and gave us a really memorable tour.
