Highlights
  • Temple of Apollo (Tempio di Apollo) - At our first food stop we’ll try out the most local of street foods:

  • Arancini: world-famous Arancini consist of a ball of rice stuffed with a variety of ingredients (meat, cooked ham, spinach, pistachios, aubergines and more) and then fried in the traditional way.

  • Fried fish cone a delicious cone filled with various kinds of fried fish, caught that day!

  • Fountain of Diana - We’ll then have a chance to taste:

  • Impanate: The Sicilian impanata (mpanata in dialect) is an artisanal bakery product typical of Sicily, a kind of tasty oval-shaped, golden-coloured calzone that can be stuffed with tomato sauce, vegetables, meat, cheese, potatoes and sausage, shrimp and black olives: it is a delicacy with decidedly strong flavours!

  • Mercato Di Siracusa - To then go to taste some local products: along a tour of the ancient market in Syracuse including a tasting of paninetti with locally produced cheeses and cured meats.

  • Largo Antonello Gagini - We’ll also relish some local and refreshing desserts:

  • Sicilian granita: perfect for relaxing and cooling down on a hot summer afternoon. It is served in a glass and is ideal to end a rich meal on a high note. Fresh fruit, sugar and ice are the necessary ingredients - simple, but incredibly tasty!

  • Sicilian Cannoli: the wafer, traditionally moulded around a hot metal bar, is filled with a sweet and creamy preparation made with ricotta cheese, candied fruit, crunchy pistachios or dark chocolate chips. An explosion of taste and colour! You can find the recipe here.

  • Via Marbella - We’ll then finish the tour with a tasting of typical local liqueurs

Eat Your Way through Ortigia! - I highly recommend this tour! Our guide Maria was excellent. A native Sicilian, she was very knowledgeable about Syracuse and brought us to the best spots in Ortigia. I still dream about the arancino della norma! Our tour was scheduled for 3 hours, but we went way over because we were having too much fun! You will get a lot of food, so be sure to come hungry!

Incredible walking food tour of Ortigia - Maria was our tour guide and she was absolutely incredible. Not only was she knowledgeable on the food and history of Sicily, but she was also a lovely person to spend the day with. The food we ate was unreal and it’s a special day I’ll never forget. Probably the most food I’ve ever eaten and it was all amazing! Can’t recommend this tour enough.

Best introduction to Ortigia ever! - Maria was absolutely amazing. Knowledgeable, generous, and great company. And her street food tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Ortigia! After she introduced us to the place with the best fritto misto in town, we returned three times for more during our month long stay in town. And when I WhatsApp’d her asking for food advice in the days after the tour - including questions about the best places to buy fish to cook - she was so amazingly helpful and generous with her time. Plus, the restaurant she recommended for dinner - Chiodo - turned out to be our favourite place to eat. Couldn’t recommend more highly! Her tour was the perfect way to get to know Ortigia! Thank you, Maria!

Best experience in Sicily! - We booked a Saturday night food tour of Syracuse and Ortigia. We sampled 5 local delicacies and a little surprise at the end. Our guide Guiseppe was a perfect host; an expert in his field, he shared insight with us on Sicily, its history, architecture and mythology, the food (all Sicilian and much IGP or DOP) and his love for Syracuse! Luckily, we were just two on the tour but I am sure that a larger group would work just as well. Guiseppe encouraged us to take our time, enjoy the food and invited lots of questions. His passion and energy was infectious; we are confident that we would not have soaked up as much local food and culture without this brilliant tour. We spent and extra 90 minutes on the tour, busy Saturday night and Guiseppe was very generous with his time. Super value at c 65 euro pp. The best part of our Sicilian trip so far and very highly recommended!

delicious - Giuseppe is an expert on the food and history of Ortigia. If you are like me and a bit overwhelmed by all the restaurants, food stalls and probably many tourist traps, then this is the tour for you. Giuseppe will show you where to get the best food!
