- 3 Ortigia Street Market - Tonia will guide you through the island’s renowned food market, where you can immerse yourself in the sights, smells, and sounds of this fascinating piece of Sicilian history. The tour will also cover the 8,000-year-old history of Sicily’s terracotta ceramics and the stories behind them.
- Za Bar - Za Bar is the first savory food stop. Here, you will enjoy two of Sicily’s popular and “accidentally” vegan dishes. Delight in the delicious combination of pizzolo and caponata while learning about their intriguing food history.
- Temple of Apollo (Tempio di Apollo) - Discover the history of Sicily’s oldest ancient Greek Doric monument, learn about Apollo, the Greek God of Sunshine, and the various rulers who have colonized Sicily over the centuries. There will also be time for taking Instagram-worthy photos.
- Corso Giacomo Matteotti - Take a leisurely stroll along Corso Matteotti, one of the island’s popular streets lined with shops and boutiques. This will allow you to decide which shops to revisit after the tour.
- Fountain of Diana - Admire the beautiful Fountain of Diana (Artemis), learn about her history, enjoy the lovely Piazza di Archimede, and capture more Instagram-worthy photos.
- Via Della Giudecca Siracusa - Starting in 2025, explore the history of Ortigia’s Jewish Quarter. The Jews established a thriving neighborhood, Giudecca, on the island, which included homes, synagogues, and purification baths until the Spanish Inquisition in 1492.
- MOON - Move Ortigia Out of Normality - The second food stop offers your first sweet treat. Savor Sicily’s famous vegan cannoli at MOON - Ortigia’s 100% vegan restaurant. Choose between traditional almond ricotta or delightful pistachio, paired with a tasting of sweet Sicilian dessert wine. MOON is closed on Tuesdays, so instead, enjoy the popular Italian crostata at Viola Bakery. Whether it’s breakfast, a snack, or dessert, crostata is always a good choice! Tonia will share the interesting and amusing history of both sweet treats.
- La Piazza Duomo - The grand Piazza Duomo is the highest point on Ortigia Island and showcases the island’s stunning Baroque architecture. Admire the exteriors of the magnificent Siracusa Cathedral, the Palazzo Senatario (Town Hall), and the Santa Lucia Church. This is another excellent opportunity for photos. Admission to the monuments is not included.
- Sabadì - Bottega e Cantina di Affinamento del Cioccolato - Siracusa - This charming artisan Sicilian chocolate shop offers handcrafted, cold-pressed delights. All chocolate tastings are free and unlimited, making them perfect gifts.
- Arethusa Spring - The beautiful Fountain adds a touch of mystery and mythology to the tour. Learn about the tragic love story that brought this unique freshwater spring to the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. The presence of papyruses, rare grasslike aquatic plants, enhances the wonder of this spot. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea from the newly completed overlook. Plan to return in the evening for the island’s stunning sunset.
- Giardino Aretusa - Next, wander through the lush, shady garden, along the sunny marina, before heading back to the center of Ortigia.
- Arancina - The third food stop features a savory Sicilian favorite - the arancina. This stop provides an opportunity to sit, relax, and enjoy your meal while learning more about this Arab-influenced street food staple.
- Statua di Archimede - Visit the Statue of Archimedes for a bit of history and the final photo opportunity!
- Gelateria Belfiore Gelato & Cioccolato - This is the last sweet food stop and the tour’s grand finale! Whether you crave sorbet, vegan gelato, or Sicilian granita, there are many delicious options to enjoy! Tonia will share more Sicilian food history and bid her heartfelt goodbyes while you savor the refreshing treat. This stop may change depending on the gelateria’s hours of operation.
