Rediscovering Olympic Valley: A Nostalgic Stroll Through Time
Inspired by my love for road trips and the open road, I embarked on the Everline Resort Explorer: Self Guided Olympic Valley Stroll. Join me as I recount this nostalgic journey through history and nature.
A Stroll Through Time
As I embarked on the self-guided Olympic Valley Stroll at the Everline Resort, I was immediately transported back to the days of my youth, when my family and I would set out on road trips across America. The open road was our playground, and each stop was a new adventure waiting to unfold. This stroll, though stationary, evoked the same sense of discovery and wonder.
The journey began outside the lodge, where the yellow “Share the Road” sign stood as a gentle reminder of the road culture that has always been a part of my life. The views of the ski slopes were breathtaking, and I couldn’t help but imagine the excitement of the 1960 Winter Olympics. The stories of Walt Disney and the Eagle Wing Dancers’ snow dance were captivating, painting a vivid picture of a time when the world came together in this very valley.
Nature’s Symphony
As I continued my walk, I encountered the unique Jeffrey Pine. Crushing a pine needle between my fingers, I was greeted by a delightful aroma that transported me back to the forests of my childhood. The scent was a blend of vanilla and lemon, a reminder of the simple pleasures that nature offers.
The path was alive with the sounds of wildlife. Ground squirrels scurried about, and I even caught a glimpse of a mule deer in the distance. The possibility of spotting a black bear added a thrill to the experience, though I was content with the peaceful presence of the smaller creatures.
The stroll was a sensory delight, each step revealing a new layer of the valley’s rich history and natural beauty. It was a reminder of the countless road trips I’ve taken, where the journey itself was as rewarding as the destination.
A Warm Welcome
The stroll concluded at the inviting pool, a serene spot that beckoned me to unwind and reflect on the day’s journey. The pool’s charm was reminiscent of Lake Tahoe, a place I’ve visited many times over the years. The scenic meadow and stocked pond nearby added to the tranquil atmosphere, offering a perfect ending to the stroll.
Before leaving, I made a stop at Sandy’s Pub, a cozy establishment within the Everline Resort. Named after Sandy Paulson, the founder of the ski area, the pub exuded warmth and hospitality. As I enjoyed a delicious meal, I couldn’t help but think of the countless diners and roadside cafes I’ve visited on my travels, each with its own story to tell.
The Everline Resort Explorer: Self Guided Olympic Valley Stroll was more than just a walk; it was a journey through time and nature, a reminder of the beauty that lies in the simple act of exploration. It was a nostalgic nod to the road trips of my past, and a testament to the enduring allure of the open road.
