Exceptional Experience Cooking A Traditional Japanese Meal - What an exceptional experience having Miki accompany us on a visit around her neighborhood in Yotsuya to explore the traditional heritage Japanese sweet shops and preserved food shop, do a market tour to buy ingredients and then go back to her place to learn how to cook a traditional Japanese meal of miso marinated grilled fish, miso and tofu salad, Japanese cucumber salad, deep fried lotus root and miso soup. She made the experience so homely, as if she was a close family friend. Her explanation about the cooking steps were so clear and always makes close reference to how Japanese families would normally eat food like that at home. It was truly a delight to get to know her, and to have such a meaningful conversation with her about our different cultures, family, travels and food.
