Experience the art of crafting handmade Japanese paper, a cherished traditional craft. Tosa Washi, one of Japan’s three major traditional papers, boasts a rich history spanning over 1,000 years. Renowned for its strength and warmth, this activity is simple to try and will be a memorable highlight of your visit to Asakusa. It is perfect for those who appreciate crafts and Japanese culture or traditional arts.

Begin by watching a brief video about the history and process of creating Tosa Washi. Then, don traditional Japanese work attire known as “samue” and, with the guidance of a friendly instructor, craft your own washi paper. Start by making a plain postcard and embellish it with beautiful colored paper called [Rakusui-shi]. With a variety of colors available, select your favorite four pieces. The workshop is filled with joyful laughter, and many participants are enchanted by the beauty of their completed Japanese paper. We hope you will take home your own washi paper as a cherished souvenir.
